I will have my comments until next week when you are finished.
I haven't seen the movie yet, but my Book Club was thinking of all going together to watch it some time this month.

Nicole, what is the author? I tried looking it up, and can you believe there are three books with this title, all published in 2012?

What are the odds of that?

My bookclub did that with The Help. We read the book and loved it and then saw the movie and loved it too.
I'm afraid I didn't get blown away with Gone Girl though.

Thank you!

This is fourth in the Amanda Jaffe series. Amanda is a private practice defense attorney who begins to suspect that the criminologist is being "creative" with evidence to make sure certain defendants are sure to be found guilty.
There is a lot going on in this story and is scary realizing that the "experts" can twist things to meet their goals.

Soon all the victims have been tattooed into him, and he hunts him down with the help of the girls. Inking the killer with the girls ashes, they soon haunt him until he turns himself in, only to Die in his sleep a few days latter.

I'm not sure why everyone freaked out over this. I thought it was just ok. Maybe it was because I listened to the audio book, or maybe it was because I went into this read expecting more??
It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary, when Amy goes missing. Amy's diary reveals Nick isn't the doting husband he portrays to the police and the media. Total Snooze fest. But then second part, with its wicked twist, changed everything. The story became much more exciting. The main characters revealed sides to them that were quite shocking and very entertaining. So I kinda liked the end, but it didn't really make up for the first half.

I enjoyed the story, but it was the first book that I hated both the main characters. Neither one of them were good people.

Nicole I read Casual Vacancy because it was by Rowling and I loved HP but thought the Vacay was a drudge.

I wouldn't take it off...it's a slow read for sure...but I liked it...it was definitely NOT Harry Potter...but then...it's not supposed to be.

4 Stars to Dark Currents
Not the same flavour as the Kushiel saga, but I wasn't expecting it to be. This is Jacqueline Carey's foray into the world of paranormal fiction.
And, might I say, it was a very engaging foray! Jacqueline's flawless writing style is still evident behind the words, of course, however this main character could not be more different than the ones we've seen before. I always think I enjoy books more when they are written in first person, and this book was no exception.
I picked this book up because the latest one has come out, being described as 'Just like Gilmore Girls, if Rory's father was a demon'. I had a lot of fun imagining Daisy Johanssen's mother as a derivative of Lorelei Gilmore, though Daisy herself reminded me more of Kate Daniels rather than even a grown up Rory Gilmore.
To set the story, we have Pemkowet, a small town place somewhere in America that boasts a heavy supernatural presence. Whenever I find a good book with a made up supernatural American town in it, I have this tendency to compare it to Charles de Lint's Newford books. I'll try to refrain this time. Like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, then, this town has the equivalent of a Hellmouth sitting beneath it, which makes it possible for the various supernaturals to make their home here.
Among them, is 'in the closet' werewolf, Cody Fairfax and not so in the closet Stefan the ghoul. Ghouls particularly have a very interesting mythology to them according to this series that also boasts of everything from naiads to North mythological figures and I'm sure a hell of a lot more as the series progresses. My personal favourite was the Oak King. I hope we get to see more of him, and oh yes I'll be reading more of this series. Characters always make a series like this, rather than plot which was little more than a murder mystery and battle between the human and supernatural factions. This book certainly showed it had the characters.
As with all books in a paranormal setting, the only thing that stopped this read from being a five star rave was the amount of set up required to get one of these worlds off the ground and into the imagination of the reader.

4th in series
Rate: 5 stars
Review: this was a surprise to me..in that I had no idea a 4th book was coming out. I love thbis series....Nellie Bly is such an entertaining character....even though some of the story was changed...Nellie Bly is still portrayed as a forward thinking, stubborn woman....ahead of her time...working to prove women are just as capable as men!

China Bayles was a high powered lawyer that needed an escape from the pressures so she moved to a small town and opened up an herb shop. Now after several years of running the shop she is feeling the need for a getaway and agrees to go on a retreat with friends to a cloistered monastery.
The peace and quiet China is seeking is not to be found, as she finds an internal war being waged among the nuns and of course a murder.

This book seemed to have a lot of good reviews, but I just had a hard time getting into it. I couldn't really relate to any of the characters and towards the end I found myself just trying to get the book over with.

For some reason I didn't get a notice that you all posted.
I just updated everything.

I planed on getting a lot of reading done last night, but as soon as I hit the couch and opened my book, I was fast asleep....
