Hey guys, I've posted on the big discussion group thread, but I wanted to let you guys know too, I'm not going to be able to continue with this challenge due to picking the wrong book this week and not having time to finish another one in time for the Thursday night deadline. I'll still be playing along for fun, but don't wait for me come Thursday nights, Abbey.
So sorry to hear this Nicole. If it is just the matter of this one week we could use the free pass that we earned so we could roll on Friday this week though without you just quitting outright.
◆ Week 3: ◆
Vicious by Kevin O'BrienAlternative - Yellow Book
Finished 9/15 Rating ★★★★★
I just discovered this author this year and have quickly become a big fan. This book centers around a serial killer called Mama's Boy because his deal is to kill single mother's while their young son's watch.
There were so many suspects in this one I couldn't trust anyone including the police. Masterfully written. I highly recommend.
Throw in a rustic cabin in the isolated woods to set the scene. Perfect. I'll never go camping in the woods again. By the time I got about 100 pages in I couldn't put this one down.
Oh, have we got a free pass already? That would cover me, if that's alright with everyone else, using it for this reason?
I will leave your spot open, just incase you do get your book done. I won't put the pass until Thursday.
Hey Abbie, I'm not able to read Timeless and have it count this week as per the conversation above with the mods. I don't have time to read another book :)
Nicole ... I also use the library for my books. But what I do is look at all the possible alternates and series #s for the next 24 possible numbers (i.e. 2 weeks ahead). Then look at my tbr and try to match books with the alternate or series #, and request ALL of them from library. It's not so many books as you might think. A standalone will cover any number with a 1 or 0 in it. A series #2 will cover all the 20's plus a 32 or 42 spot. Either of these books might also have the author name, title, publication date, cover image, location or cover color. Usually with 5 books out of the library I can cover any possibility for the next two weeks. And I try, where possible to make sure I have at least TWO books that will cover any possible spot we land on. That way I have a choice.
And, no, I don't read every book I check out. Some go back without even having been opened.
Good luck playing.
Abbie, Since it is only Monday morning. I would have plenty of time to read a second book to cover Nicole. Could we do that?
I asked Jenne about reading a book for Nicole and the answer is no to that. She will either have to read a qualifying book or we use the free pass.Hey it was worth a shot, right?

This sounds good! I've heard from a coworker that he is a good author. Does it matter which book is read first or are they all stand alones?
All stand alones Ashley and independent. I have read 4 books by him so far and all have been 5 stars from me. One of my goals is to read ALL of his books. Usually by about 1/4 way through they are can't put this book down.
Nicole, do u have a tablet or an e-reader? There are a lot of free books, plus your library probably has an app. My library app is called Overdrive. I love it!! You can put books on hold, you canrent audiobooks, create a wish list, ect...

Since Nicole is in Australia though she might not have all the amazon access like we do though.I'm already plotting for next week. Since we are on spot 23 right now either a 2 or 3 will work for all possibilities next week so I am seeing what I want to grab now since they are 3 week checkouts.

I have so many books saved up on my Kindle that it's usually not a problem:)
I get daily emails from Bookbub, Midlist, and BookGorilla with daily kindle deals. I always get the free ones if they sound good.
I think I have several books in mind for 2 or 3 as well.
Oh yes those darn freebie lists. I have them focused on mysteries and I still have over 11,000 freebies collected over the last 4 years. Like I will ever read all those books, but the price is right. haha. I have access to several library systems so I generally can find whatever I want for instant gratification.
hahaha...I know Sheila!! I've only read a couple of the freebies. I will never read them all either, but it satisfies my book buying addiction:)

For sure! I saw the post. Too bad though.

I know the feeling...I kept picking them up to.
But then I am like wait a minute...I need to read these. I made a goal to not pick up any books this year....it has worked out fairly well, I have only grabbed a few.
I have been trying to make this the year of the TBR!
Now that is a noble goal Abbie. My goal for 2014 is to finish some series. So far about 35 up to date.
Catherine wrote: "lol...I'll never get through my TBR list! it keeps growing!"I won't either!! Lol!! I've come to terms with it though.
You guys are so lovely.I don't know about the ebook stuff for Amazon or my library. It might be cause I'm in Australia. It might also be cause I'm not tech savvy;$

If you're curious, ask your librarian next time you visit. That's how I got set up:)
Ohh...haha ok. I wasn't sure if it was for 1 person or everyone that week:)just finished Scarlet. Will post review later tonight.
finished
..Gregory Harris..number 2 in series Rate: 5 stars!! :)
Review: well..this story definitely had a lot of twists and turns...and I find it hard to believe that anyone would be able to figure out who was guilty before Colin Pendragon solved the case!!! This is Victorian England at it's most thrilling. I could really picture all the comings ang goings at Buckingham Palace...I could see all the dark alleyways. I felt like this case was throwing all these curveballs, trying to confuse and confound....and then on top of everything else, he was working another case at the same time! yet he always had that cunning gleam in his eyes.
I now have to buckle down and wait (rather impatiently) for the next book...which I know will come!
Finished Scarlet by Marissa Meyer
♥♥♥♥♥I haven't already said this, I'll say it again...I love this series! The second book was just as fast paced and intriguing as the first. Book #2 moves back and forth intricately between Scarlet and Cinder. Meyer does a great job of giving the readers some new characters with a new but connected storyline, while continuing on Cinder's story. Meyers brings these prissy fairy tale girls into the future with ease. While Cinder trades in her glass slipper for a cyborg leg, Scarlet trades in her cape and basket for a hoodie and gun.
This series reminds me of Once Upon a Time, X-men and Firefly all mashed up into one delicious series. I almost don't want to read the next one because the fourth doesn't come out until next year.
Scarlet#2 in series
Completed 9/18
4 stars.
Another great book in the series. I think I am falling in love with Marissa Meyers! In this second book we meet Scarlet who is looking for her grandmother who has disappeared. We watch Cinder escape from jail, and pick up another prisoner, a young ladies man who just happens to have a ship. Wolf leads Scarlet on a chase, and we start to wonder whose side be is actually on. Kai makes a deal with the Lunar Queen, and now it is up to Cinder to save him...and possibly Earth!
Here's hoping for a nice big number tomorrow. Hubby is leaving town tomorrow morning for a boys weekend out so I will be having a reading marathon and also finally checking out Blacklist on Netflix.

Great. I'll read ◆
Echoes from the Dead by Johan Theorin by a new "T" Scandinavian :author. This will fit 3 other challenges as well. :)
I think I will do
..which is a number 2...if I can find it...otherwise I think I have at least one more number 2 in series. I may have to look at my books for a T author though...so will confirm in a bit :)
Sorry, I did see this and have been reading, just hadn't had a chance to reply. I'm just about half way through reading
already, 2nd in a series.
◆ Week 4: ◆
Echoes from the Dead by Johan TheorinFor the alternative of a T author.
Finished 9/21 Rating ★★★★
This was a new author to me in the Swedish crime noir. It starts out with 6 years old Jens deciding to go exploring on the other side of his grandfather's garden wall. A thick fog comes in and Jens is never seen again.
The prime suspect is Nils who is the local bogeyman. The disappearance of Jens goes unsolved for 20 years when the family receives a package in the mail with one of Jens sandals in it. The story is pretty involved but definitely kept my interest and I will certainly read more by this Swedish author.
