Section 3

Please keep all discussion and speculation to the events of Chapter 23-33.

No spoiler tags required. Though it would be highly appreciated if you Uncheck Add to my Update Feed to avoid accidentally spoiling this for your good read friends.

Please do not discuss events from later chapters/books. Referring back to events from a previous section/book is fine.

Dara (cmdrdara) Still not enjoying this book too much. Haven't connected with any characters and the only one I care about slightly is Zezili.

Suzanne | 1582 comments I'm having a problem with connecting also Dara. I like the world(s) building and what I've seen of the magic, but there are so many characters and right now I don't care a lot who lives and who dies. I have a hard time telling some of them apart, because of all of the strange names - I have to read a page or two and then think (oh, its that one). But the author does help set context fairly quickly when she switches POV - thank goodness.

One issue I'm probably having is this is the fantasy I'm reading right after Blood Song and The Tyrant's Law - and I LOVED the characters in both of those.

I tried posting this yesterday but somehow managed to lose my post..*sigh*

Ch 26

This is a big chapter. We learn some interesting things about the Mirror world. Ahkio learns of its existence.

And apparently the Yisaoh that Roh saw was her "shadow" from the other world and not her. Almeysia had killed her, but Yisaoh's father has 3 omajistas and managed to bring her back preventing the other Yisaoh from returning.

It also seems hinted that Kirana that died may not have been Ahkio's sister, but her shadow instead? I'm not sure.

And Caisa seems to think that Ahkio is from the other side. Maybe that's why the whole conspiracy around his birth? Maybe he's not Nasaka's son, but simply from the other side and was indeed a stillbirth here.

I also wonder if Caisa is from the other side. She's pretty low in the order I thought (which was why Ahkio selected her) to know about it.

Very interesting stuff, but not very clear to me, so I'm even more confused!

Ch 28

I really don't like Lilia. It's one thing to be stubborn and determined to keep a promise to your dying mother, but to kill an innocent child like that? And that's only the most recent/awful thing she's done in the book so far.

Dara (cmdrdara) I don't like Lilia at all. I don't understand why she's so hell bent on finding her mother. I don't know if this is a spoiler or not but I'm gonna tag it just in case (view spoiler)

Ch 33

That was a cool scene with Roh seeing through the hazed attackers, but I still don't find myself caring much about him or anyone else for that matter.

Suzanne | 1582 comments I dislike Lilia too - and her choices seem so illogical and awful. I DO like Roh...a tiny bit. Zezili seems to be wanting to take action, but she's ok with genocide in the meantime, or at least feels like she doesn't have a choice. Sigh...I've been really slow reading this but I'll eventually make it through (on Ch 31).
