Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments Once their journey's end-at least for the next little while-Claire is treated kindly, but with some suspicion. She is fed, given new clothes (I wonder how they were able to find the proper clothes in the right size) and a place to sleep. I have to say we probably wouldn't treat a visitor as nice as she was. Especially, considering that fact that they suspected her of being an English spy.
Granted, she did have to meet Colum, which only stands to reason, and she did have to explain herself and in the book she really kind of mucked it up, because she forgot about explaining how she came to be in her shift.
I really liked that she was given care of the gardens and her surgery. I wonder why they weren't afraid that she could do some real damage to the people. Granted when they were on their way to Leoch she helped Jaime twice and she also warned them about a possible attack, but that could have been to get in their good graces.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) Remember, Mrs. Fitz was taking care of her and she immediately warmed to her because of her care of Jamie. That made Mrs. Fitz a good friend.

Claire also quickly established her knowledge of plants and herbs, which they probably were willing to give her the benefit of the doubt because their healer was gone.

Clair told Collum -remember he asked her how a woman of her quality came to be running the forest in her shift and she said her close disappeared when BJR tried to rape her and I`m sure they worried about her doing damage when treating them,I think they never ever really trusted a *healer*no matter who, I think they always thought of them being mostly witches.

I had forgotten that Clair told Colum that BJR tried to rape her, and initially I thought that was just in the movie version.

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) | 598 comments Maybe it was just in the movie,I don`t remember half the book and I just got thru rereading them-I think I should have waited between them but I wanted to finish befor the movie started

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments I think this movie is a great compliment to the book, because it brings parts of the book you could easily forget and allows a visual. I wonder how many times the director had to reread parts of the book to film it.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) He's got Diana right there as a consultant and she helped with the screenplay.

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments good point I forgot about her being right there. I just remember Tom saying when they were filming Clair going through the stones that he read and reread that part. He said he knew what he didn't want and then he saw the obscure part in the book where Claire is saying that explained that going through the stones felt like a car freefalling from a cliff.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) That sounds like the creative process. Not so much that he didn't understand it but needing to find a way to illustrate it without using special effects. Where he ended up was brilliant.

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) | 598 comments Yes and I think many people her are also doing some brilliant things and I just love the UKs way of doing things and the actors even talk in every day ways. When she told Jamie she wasn`t going with him and he said, "yes you are," just like any guy would I knew I would like this movie a lot then he said," I guess this means you are going with me,"after threatening to put her over his shoulder.Loved Jaamie getting all masterful like that !

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments Every time I see Jaime I want to swoon. He is so good looking, and he is so masterful.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 1619 comments I can feel Claire's desperation. They have taken her far from Craigh na Dun and the circle of the standing stones. Even though everything that has happened to her is just insane, she feels that that place must be a portal. She wants to go home, but I don't think she wants to go home to Frank particularly. She just feels she needs to go back. She seeks out Jamie at the stables when her mind needs relief, I don't think even she knows why, but I think they are linked even then.

message 13: by Dee (new)

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments I never thought about that. I just sort of took it without even thinking how they were linked. I certainly understand why she wanted to get back to her own time, I mean even with her being able to adapt to this time period as well as she did, it still had to be culture shock.
