I have the British Library Crime Classics edition. The book was first published in 1940 and it shows as there are some very misogynist statements.
It's a very intriguing mystery - it's divided into 4 parts and takes place on the day of the trial.
Part 1 tells the reader of the jury members, who each bring their own prejudices towards the case, which is detailed in part 2. The jurors include a murderer, a Catholic, a widow and a Don.
Part 3 provides details of the trial and verdict; the postcript reveals what really happened.
I won't reveal what the jury decide, but I will say triggers for animal abuse.
It's definitely worth a read, the twist in the postscript will definitely stay with me for a while!
