Alex | 4 comments The Two Towers, by J. R. R. Tolkien. Paperback published by Mariner in September 2012. ISBN 978-0-547-92820-3.

Page numbering in database indicates that the book is 725 pages. This is incorrect. Since The Two Towers is the second volume of what was written as a single work later divided into three volumes, the page numbering for this book ends on 725, but begins with 399 (the same publisher's printing of The Fellowship of the Ring similarly ends with page 398).

This printing is, more accurately, 327 pages long.

Alex | 4 comments It may be worth noting that 327 is merely my own calculation (725 (the last page of this volume) -398 (the last page of the previous volume of the same set) = 327). The volume's Amazon page claims 325.

While we're here, the page count data for the same publisher's printing of The Return of the King (ISBN 978-0-547-92819-7) comes to 412 pages by my reckoning (1137 being the last numbered page of the volume) or 432 by Amazon's.

Goodreads policy is to use that last page (725), even for books that start well after page 1.

Alex | 4 comments Okay. Learned something new today.

In that case, Return of the King from the same publisher (ISBN 978-0-547-92819-7) should be 1137 instead of the 520-some it's currently listed as.

Thanks!

EDIT: To be clear, just in case, the final numbered page of the volume is 1137, which is the end of the index. The final page of the story is 1008 and the final page of the appendices is 1112.
