Yes, it was another of THOSE rounds. Who thought Carlton would upset Freo and on the latter's home ground over in the west? Well obviously Grizzly and Suzy had inside info! Who thought the Pies would turn turtle and give up? Again, Suzy. And who thought the Bulldogs could go over to Adelaide and upset Port? That woman Suzy! Well done to Grizzly (who did the double) and David for tipping 6 winners, to Suzy for also getting closest to the pin on margins, and that man again, David, whose Lions look so good going forward. Young Eric Hipworth is a goal machine. We need more Erics! (except I always think of Eric Olthwaite, the most boring man in the world).

Next week's fixtures are:
Friday, July 5
Hawthorn Hawks v Collingwood Magpies (in Melbourne)
Saturday, July 6
Essendon Bombers v Sydney Swans (in Melbourne)
Gold Coast Suns v Richmond Tigers (on the Gold Coast)
Adelaide Crows v Port Power (in Adelaide)
Western Bulldogs v Geelong Cats (in Melbourne)
Fremantle Dockers v West Coast Eagles (in Perth)
Sunday, July 7
Carlton Blues v Melbourne Demons (in Melbourne)
North Melbourne Kangaroos v St Kilda Saints (in Melbourne)
GWS Giants v Brisbane Lions (in Sydney)
If punters could lodge their tips by midnight THURSDAY July 4 (your time) it would be a great help, although I can accept them up until 10.45am FRIDAY July 5 (your time) if absolutely necessary.

the real winner of this tournament is VAR, as it does it's best to completely sterilize football. i think that if the league you play in doesn't use VAR, it shouldn't be used in international games where mibbe one team, or both, has no experience of it! but hey ho

Hawks - 5 (Pies really need this one, given who they are playing in the next 4 rounds, but Hawks have a good win record against the Pies at home)
Bombers (Swans haven't beaten the Bombers at home, since lords know when!)
Tigers (shoe in of the week!)
Crows (Crows hard to beat at home)
Cats (C'mon..course it's the Cats!)
Eagles (Reigning premiers against the Dockers?)
Demons (Dees are showing a lotta promise currently)
Roos (after last week's upset performance...they should get this)
GIANTS (both high scoring teams..but GWS are well smarting from last week's loss!)
Good luck folks & cheers Val.

In Perth it's "the derby" (pronounced "dirby") between Freo and the Eagles; in Adelaide it's "the showdown" between Port and the Crows. Presumably the other games will be just the usual "stoush".
We're all here so may the best woman or man win!

Hawthorn Hawks (available) v Collingwood Magpies (Tech)

Four clever tipsters chose the Hawks and two of those share the spoils with the closest margin predictions. Duke (Hawks x 5) and Grizzly (Hawks x 3) both earn $6.00 for their respective charities - Insight and Red Nose. Smarter than me!!
One below ... again!
Congrats, Duke, on being one the other way :)

A few shocks there!!!

The Eagles are now in a chance of taking lead...things are hotting up!
I gotta ask...but how much longer can the poor Suns expect to continue like this...7 years since they were formed? If they don't start putting a consistantly good performance in soon..will they be around for much longer?

Their future won't be decided by the club or the fans but by the AFL. It's their baby, the idea of expanding the game into the rugby-loving states of Queensland and New South Wales. Unfortunately, fans are fickle beings and are attracted by success. In the early 2000s the Lions won three consecutive Grand Finals. Crowds were huge. Since then they have slumped dramatically and crowd sizes have followed. Now, they seem to have regained their mojo and the crowds are back. But they are based in a big city (Brisbane). The Gold Coast is home to tourists, beach babes and retirees. So not ideal. But I suspect the AFL will dig their heels in and refuse to budge. And all the while, Tasmania is an Aussie Rules-mad state which has produced heaps of champion players and would love a home-based club (not Hawthorn or the Roos). Will the AFL listen? Pig's bum!
