Opinions on Cory Doctorow's Little Brother, leave 'em here.

Also, get the book for free (legally too) from: http://craphound.com/littlebrother/do...

x Usually I don't say anything about the monthly picks before a hangout, but bloody hell, I'm enjoying this activist-guide-disguised-as-a-story immensely.

We freely give up so many rights, rights that have been hard fought for, and I can't think of a better way of entertainingly educating people to the danger, and how to fight back.

Last thing, it reminds me a lot of the graphic novel Wizzywig: Portrait of a Serial Hacker. If you enjoyed Little Brother, I'd recommend it.

Edited: Actual last thing: while I remember, the IGF (Internet Governance Forum - a UN run shindig) is meeting in Istanbul this weekend. Ah Turkey, the government just loves the internet there!

Anyway, this is the second IGF meet-up post Snowden and it'll be interesting to hear what the assorted folks have to say about the US's continued leadership of t'internet. Probably nothing useful, but there's bound to be talk about securing ICANN's independence.

Interested, why not read more about it here - http://crookedtimber.org/2014/09/04/h...

More Little Brother pertinent news... according to some reports (Slashdot), Comcast has been telling its customers to stop using Tor.

Footling round with the browser is apparently "against usage policy" because Tor is only for sketchy criminals committing all teh crimez.

There don't seem to be any verified sources, so this could be a storm in a teacup, but...

I read that too. The news wasn't very specific. It might just be due to the increase in traffic because of the relay. From what I gather US ISP's are a bit stingy about their traffic.

But if it's use Tor = criminal, then it's just bloody stupid.

Beth | 41 comments Little Brother is powerful stuff. Dare I write what I think here? Who is reading?

Let's face it, you can't find terrorism by being terrified. Giving up privacy doesn't guarantee security.

If your edition of this book has the afterwords from the security guy and the hacker, READ THEM!

It seems hollywood hunger for YA dystopian stories is still strong.
