Not as surprised as I would have been a couple of books back. I think the author has been changing his character very subtly so she could achieve what happens without all her readers saying 'What the..."
You’re right, Phrynne. We did have some preparation, though him referring to Catherine as his grandchild did stop me in my tracks in the moment. That was a big declaration.
I agree with both of you. We've been seeing subtle changes in him in the last few books. I'm sure he heard a lot about Catherine from his wife. I don't remember him actually having much contact with her. Of course, he knew Sarah loved her and that was enough for him.
Felix has definitely mellowed - he actually respects Frank now and I like his fondness for Catherine. That said, his personality change isn't very realistic.
I was surprised and touched by Frank claiming Catherine as his granddaughter. It seems very realistic to me. Both Decker's are feeling their failure towards their eldest daughter. It is a big pain in their heart that they didn't reach out to her before it was too late.
Now, they are trying hard to build bridges with Sarah. Mrs. Decker has a lot of sway over her husband. If she is accepting Catherine as a grand child, her husband will to.
I still feel like there are some behind the scene discussions that aren't revealed yet with Frank and Mr. Decker. At this point, there is a good possibility that Catherine is the only child that Sarah will have.
I agree, Sharon. Felix and Elizabeth have many regrets about their oldest daughter and won’t make the same mistakes again. These are big steps, though.
No comment on Frank and Felix😏
