Katie | 2360 comments I know a getting-to-know-you game called Two Truths and a Lie, where everyone shares three facts about themselves, two of which are true and one is false, and everyone tries to guess the lie.

This getting-to-know-you game is based on that idea, but since that format doesn't really work for a bunch of people in an online group, I thought we could share our dreams with each other instead.

So in the spirit of getting to know each other better, please share 2 things about yourself and one of your hopes, dreams or ambitions.

1. I teach high school English, journalism, economics, and personal finance.
2. I have actually accomplished everything I put on my bucket list when I was in high school (but it was only two things -- skydive and get a tattoo).

I want to read 100 books this year, and I hope to travel to Europe for the first time in the next couple of years.

message 3: by Deena (new)

Deena Abutaha (mwinamman) | 67 comments 1. I am an Assistant Librarian at a K-12 school in Jordan.
2. I have a cat named Snowball
I dream of one day going someplace new and exotic.

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments 1. I was a nurse for 17 years!! 2 years in Management, 1 year teaching, 2 years of Inter Hospital Emergency Response Team, and 12 years in the ICU 😳. Now my body is broken (and possibly my brain) LOL.

2. I have 2 beautiful daughters, Zoey and Kalley, a Wheaten Terrier named Teddy (He's 2 years old) and a tropical fish tank. We just found a new baby Panda Catfish swimming around in there...cute!

I dream of being a school librarian, and living on farm full of animals ( donkeys, horses and alpacas included)

message 5: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3282 comments 1. I work for a day program for adults with disabilities in a relatively small (but growing!) organization, and I love my job. It's an agency that I first heard about when I was 13 because the cofounders' kids went to my high school in the special needs program, and I never thought it would get off the ground considering there are other similar agencies around already.

2. I was mistaken for an English major often in university because I always had a book with me, but I actually studied psychology.

I dream of raising enough money for the company I work for so they can continue to expand and especially to get housing going for some of the participants (although hopefully the program doesn't move too far away -- it's currently a 10 minute walk from my house!).

Sarah (sezziy) | 614 comments 1. My best buddy is my little nephew, Max. He turns 5 next week.

2. My favourite food is pancakes so I am super excited for pancake on Tuesday. Om nom nom!

I love to travel and I used to work for Disney so one of my dreams is to visit all of the Epcot countries for real. I visited three of them last year so now I only have Canada left.

message 7: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1587 comments 1. I love animals, cats in particular. They just make me smile.

2. I have been playing an online war game for over a year. I find it kind of weird that I like it so much because in the real world I am a total peace loving hippy kind of person.

Dream a little dream of travel and giving back to the world in some way.

message 8: by Katie (new)

Katie | 2360 comments 1. I completely changed the way I eat this past year, including giving up refined sugar, and I lost about 50 pounds.

2. At the same time, I have a huge sweet tooth, and I love baking. My great baking accomplishment this year was making 3 cherpumples.

3. I dream of starting a side baking business, but I am too nervous to make it happen.

message 9: by Kerry (new)

Kerry (euphemy) | 169 comments 1. I love to travel and will go almost anywhere.

2. I would rather stay home & read instead of going to social events.

3. I would love to work with wildlife but afraid it would not pay as well as the job I have now. I would like to work at a sanctuary for wild animals possibly when I retire.

message 10: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (maezyreads) 1. I am a stay-at-home mom to two boys aged 11 & 14 and absolutely love it.
2. I have recently developed a new love of cooking.
3. My dream vacation is to England, Ireland, Scotland & Wales. I've read so many historical romance books that take place in those locations and I want to see those locations. i.e. Hyde Park, Pall Mall, The Highlands, Cliffs of Moher etc. etc.

message 11: by °~Amy~° (new)

°~Amy~° (amybooksit) 1. I am a bit of an electronics addict. I often have my phone, my laptop, my tablet, my e-reader, my smartwatch and various other devices all within reach, often simultaneously using three or more of them at once.

2. I currently own 200 books that I haven't yet read, not including the dozens on my e-reader.

I often dream of owning a small used book shop but know that realistically, that is not financially feasible.

message 12: by Joan (last edited Mar 03, 2019 01:40PM) (new)

Joan Barnett | 1972 comments 1. I married my high school sweetheart - we've been married 25 years and have two kids (Ryan 17 and Katie 14)

2. I'm a huge Philadelphia sports fan. I love the Eagles and the Phillies. I lived outside of Philly for 34 years and moved to Virginia 15 years ago.

I really want to travel. I have not been off of the North American continent. I have been to Mexico and Canada but would really like to go to England, Ireland, Italy, etc!!!

message 13: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments I'm loving reading all of these! Emily, if you do end up coming to Europe, make sure you visit Switzerland! 😉

Now, me, I guess!

1. I hadn't left Australia until I was 33 years old, and honestly doubted that I ever would. Last week (10 years later) I visited my 19th country (Bosnia - somewhere I honestly never expected to ever set foot in!), and I'm hoping to visit #20 later this year (hopefully Denmark or Sweden).

2. When I was a child, I wanted to be a paediatrician, but then I realised that I didn't have the stomach for it (I'm also certain that there are other things that would have prevented this particularly dream, like my ineptitude at science).

My dream (or at least one I'm comfortable sharing) is to become fluent in German. After six years of living in Switzerland it's still woeful, so early this year I've started doing daily work on it on Duolingo. It's not perfect, but it's a start and I'm forming a habit which can only be a good thing. I can now quite fluently & confidently tell you that the potatoes are clean, and the bear is drinking beer.

message 14: by Hannah (new)

Hannah | 384 comments 1. I teach languages (German, Spanish and KS3 French) in a secondary school.

2. I have over 1,000 unread ebooks on an external hard-drive that I friend gave me about 5 years ago. There are so many on there that I don't actually know which ones I have, but I am slowly reading my way through them, and I'm also deleting the books that I know I am never going to read (horror, sci-fi, most romance, most fantasy) or that I have a physical copy of.

I love travelling, and have lived abroad in both Germany and Spain. My dream is to travel to at least 100 countries in the world. I've visited 22 so far, and I'm going on a trip with my students to Sri Lanka this summer to do some voluntary work for 2 weeks, so that will be country 23. But then I'm going to put this dream on hold for 2-3 years whilst I try to save money to buy a house, so all of my travelling for the next few years will be done through books.

message 15: by Sofia (new)

Sofia | 33 comments 1. I work as a flight attendant in a Portuguese airline and I love to travel. I fell very blessed because I already visited all 5 continents and 36 different countries.

2. I had a son in 2016 and decided to take a leave from my work, to completely follow the first year of his life. Being a stay-at-home mom almost took away my sanity, but then at 2017 I've found AtY group and reading helped me a lot!

3. I dream to have a house of my own, with my own library with enough space for my beautiful books.

message 16: by Katie (new)

Katie | 2360 comments Joan, how about Bryce Harper! Thirteen years is insanity to me. I'm a Flyers, Sixers & Eagles fan, but am a Braves fan for baseball. My husband has given me a hard time about it our whole marriage, but since they signed Harper, he's become insufferable! "Come over to a winner," he says. I think it's going to be a long thirteen years!

I spent the last so many years hating Bryce Harper because he was on the Nats. Now I have to adjust to routing for him. I jump on the Flyers and Sixers bandwagon when they are doing well but ice hockey was never my thing. I can get into basketball though. Those games can be pretty exciting!

I'm still missing the 2008 Phillies World Series Team. I miss all of those players. Ryan Howard's poster is still hanging in my son's room!!!

message 18: by Silvia (new)

Silvia Turcios | 1058 comments 1. I am from El Salvador, but now I live in Norway because my husband work.

2. We named our Jack Russell Terrier , Jack ... after checking pages and pages of names :P

My dream is to visit Japan!

message 19: by Katie (new)

Katie | 2360 comments Joan, I know just what you mean! My husband is gloating that the Braves didn't get Harper, and I keep saying I hate him so I don't even care. Last week he was saying he wanted to buy me a Phillies shirt and asked what player I would want. I said Cliff Lee or Chase Utley. Even I love the 2008 team.

message 20: by Joan (new)

Joan Barnett | 1972 comments Katie!!! Chase Utley is my all time favorite!! Loved the fact that Kashmir was his walk up song!! Jimmy Rollins is up there too!!!

message 21: by Tammy (new)

Tammy | 704 comments 1) I have a dog named Pee Diddy (he was very stubborn about Potty training). We liked the idea that when we got bored of the name we could call him Pup Daddy or Sean Puppy Combs.
2) I named my daughter after a Beatles album. I have 25 Beatles Mugs in my office that I color coordinate with my outfits.

In 2020 my cooking club will celebrate our 20th anniversary by traveling to the south of France to stay in Julia Child's home where she wrote Mastering the Art of French Cooking. That will be a dream come true!

Wow it is wonderful that you have been able to be part of a cooking club for 20 years! And what a great way to celebrate all those years together.

Your dog name also had me laughing.

message 23: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (ronireads13) | 816 comments 1. I'm a huge soccer (futbol) fan. I only got into the game about 10 years ago but am obsessed. I also love American football, hockey, and baseball.

2. I work at the library I grew up going to and volunteered at, though I am on the management end and am not a librarian.

I want to travel to Europe someday, specifically Portugal, Holland and Germany where my parents roots are from. I would also love to go to Barcelona, Spain and see Camp Nou and attend a game there!

message 24: by Jill (new)

Jill | 725 comments 1. I have worked for the same company for 36 years.
2. I am a huge sports fan. My father was a sports writer when I was board and he taught all three of his daughters to love sports. The Dodgers, Rams and Clippers are my teams.

If I ever win the lottery I have told everyone I am going to buy a Starbucks so I can spend every day reading books and drinking coffe, my two biggest addictions!
