I read this book maybe 15-20 years ago (1999-2004), and it was already a well-read book. I remember reading it at my grandmother's house, so it was probably a romance novel, but I remember it being quite a thick novel. The cover was dark blue or green, and it had flowers on the cover. I'm assuming it was written by a woman, but I can't be certain.

Plot details I can remember - a woman named Rose. Her last name may have been Jefferson. Her family was wealthy and lived in New York. It was set in pre and during WW2. She started a credit card company.
Another character was a young French woman. First name was possibly Michelle. Last name Delacroix or De la Croix. She found Rose's brother - an injured soldier - and sheltered him in an oubliette ( I remember this specifically because before reading this I had no idea what an oubliette was!). They fell in love and married.
Rose and Michelle (?) did not get along.

That's really all I can remember at this point.
I don't think this was a particularly great book, but it's one that I have remembered for years and I just want to know the title.
