Ha! Glad to hear someone else is out there!
Ha! Glad to hear someone else is out there!
Looking at some of the books I have stacked up to read, including library books, I realize that several of them are debuts! For example, I just started reading There There because it is due back at the library soon and there is a big wait list for it, but now I'm going to make sure to finish it March! I'm reading another book - actually a comfort re-read - that conveniently fits into another challenge I'm doing (set in a vicarage). Others I want to read for other prompts in that same challenge are debuts. I'm just shuffling it all around to read more of them in March.

I always seem to get the same sweet librarian when I go to the hold desk with a tote bag. Sometimes 2 days in a row. She says I'm not the only one.
The one good thing about hoarding library books... they always have to go back. I'd be much too embarrassed to confess how many library books I have out right now.
Anita wrote: "I am torn between reading Asymmetry and You Know You Want This. Anyone read either of these?"I read Asymmetry. I wasn’t a fan, but I think you’d like it more than I did. It’s certainly gotten a lot of praise.

She might well be one herself.
Signed, the librarian who is finally back under 50 checkouts

Took out like 11 books, but arguably a few of them, many are for my eight-year-old. And in my own defense I turned back in white chrysanthemum. I knew I wouldn’t get to it and it didn’t sound as intriguing as the book I have on order that fulfills two categories and is on my TBR.
This is so exciting! So many good books on this list. But I am surprised no one has mentioned The Night Circus, I absolutely love that book, it's in my top 5 favorites of all time. I am kind of embarrassed to say I read it every year in the fall. It's so much more than just a magician's story or love story. I could talk all day about that, so I will just stop now! Haha.
I am working hard on my TBR pile, so these are some options for books that I have in my possession that I would like to read for this months tag, if someone else is as well:
1. The Light Between Oceans
2. Rules of Civility
3. The Bone Season
4. Letters from Skye
5. Sense and Sensibility
My recommendations to others, that I have already read and enjoyed:
1. The Night Circus
2. Cinder (If you like YA/Fantasy)
3. One Day in December
I am looking forward to see what everyone is reading!

Cinder has been on my list forever and I never seen to get to it! Here it is again, popping up as an option for the monthly tag! Maybe this is finally the month....
And I LOVED The Night Circus. It is one of those books where I get jealous when I see other people reading it for the first time.

YES!! I completely understand the jealousy! And the Lunar Chronicles series as a whole is much better than I had originally thought it would be- it's kind of a fairytale retelling, but it just holds the slimest of similarities so it is a whole new story. I really like it, and I hope you do too!
Ashley, I loved the night circus! My vote for you would be rules of civility. I just loved that one.

One of these days you'll read it. I'm interested to see what you think of it.

It only gets confusing if a new person doesn't know this and puts one of my holds in on the general shelf in that room. It won't show up in my bag when others go to get them and they have to go back. I've never thought of myself as a hoarder, but then we have a network that people can take books from and not just our local library, so it's not so bad as there are almost always other copies available.
Tracy wrote: "Anita wrote: "I am torn between reading Asymmetry and You Know You Want This. Anyone read either of these?"I read Asymmetry. I wasn’t a fan, but I think you’d like..."
Thanks, Tracy . . .I own it so I'm sorta tempted, but not entirely sold on reading it yet. Appreciate the input though!

There are a lot of Night Circus fans here. I very much enjoyed it! And I don't normally like stories involving magic, but that was definitely an exception.
Regarding your options, I've only read #1 and #2, and between those, I have no problem recommending Rules of Civility. Good luck with your selection!
Joanne wrote: "Karin wrote I rate a large bag in the holds room.Lol, and I thought I was bad taking a shelf!"
Oh, you might be worse--I don't know if the bag is an entire shelf, or how long your shelf is! But a bag can hold a LOT of books.
My # 34 isThe Golem and the Jinni, so that's first up for me-Also reading Garden Spells which I just saw was a debut!
Ashley, did you know that Erin Morgenstern has a new book coming out late this year!? The Starless Sea coming out November 5.
Amy wrote: "Ashley, I loved the night circus! My vote for you would be rules of civility. I just loved that one."Thanks Amy! I just got this one from a discount book site, but it has been on my want list for quite some time, so I am excited to finally read it.

I am so glad to hear it!! And I think you made a good recommendation, others are saying the same thing, so I think that one will be my choice for this month. So excited for a new read that so many people have also enjoyed.
Nicole R wrote: "Ashley, did you know that Erin Morgenstern has a new book coming out late this year!? The Starless Sea coming out November 5."*Jaw Drops* What?! I had no idea!! I just looked it up and that looks like another great book from Morgenstern. I cannot wait and regardless if I am on a book-buying-ban, that one is going in my cart come November.
Thank you for the tip!
Shoot Nicole, the starless sea? That is going straight on my not so secret phone TBR! “She thinks she’s the TBR slasher of 2019 -some joke!”

You are quite welcome! I don't even remember how I saw it, but I have known about it for a couple of months. I feel like it was on some kind of "most anticipated books of 2019" list or something.

I really liked this one!
"The Night Circus" also made my favourites the first time I read it.

Oooh, I was hoping she had another coming out soon!
Hi everyone 👋 Yay for Debut books. So I have 3 books already on my tbr for other challeng:
Mansfield Park (reread for Austen read-along on Instagram),
The Hunger Games (reread for another read-along on Instagram),
and The Hobbit for #MiddleEarthMarch (reread for this. Tolkien Fans celebrating his books during this month).
Yup all three are reread books but it’s been a long while since I’ve read them.
I double triple checked and The Hobbit is Tolkien’s first fiction novel published in 1937, before that he had some poetry and academic works.
Gregor the Overlander was Suzanne Collins’ debut book so maybe while I’m rereading The Hunger Games I’ll read that.
I have so very many books from the debut books tag/shelf on my shelves! I must be drawn to first time authors when making selections at the book store.I'm planning on the following:
A Constellation of Vital Phenomena
Midnight at the Bright Ideas Bookstore
White Chrysanthemum
And recommend these:
White Teeth
The Leavers
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
Still Alice
Born a Crime: Stories From a South African Childhood
I'm excited for this tag! I'm also doing the PopSugar challenge, so I try to pick books that cover both. PopSugar has a debut novel category this year, so I'm all set. I'm going to read The Mysterious Affair at Styles.Other debuts I can recommend (some of which I'm sure have already been mentioned):
Tell the Wolves I'm Home
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
The Kite Runner
The Hobbit or There and Back Again
Jane Eyre

Lately, I have not been getting luck with my challenges cross referencing with any other reads.
I like mystery series that have great characters and writing, such as the books by Louise Penny. Her debut book was Still Life and it is set in a small village in Quebec. Some also take place in the city or other parts of Canada. The characters are really special to me, and the overall story arc is very intelligent. The first book in the series feels cozy, and some of the characters are quirky, but overall this is definitely not a cozy mystery series.
Does anyone have similar recommendations?

Joi, I set up a thread for it in the activities folder. I'm glad you're interested!

It does jump around, but each jump shows the date. I think it would probably be easier to read the book (as opposed to audio) so you can check dates if you need to, and I wouldn't read other books in between. I don't think you'd want to anyway. I started this book at night on a business trip, and I kept waking up with a very strong NEED to read more. I was almost late to my first meeting!

The detective in the story is a Norwegian woman by the name of Sigrid who teams up with a rather folksy American small town sheriff. They are trying to understand the death of a college professor. In this book too, the characters have depth and are interesting. This is the author's 2nd book about Sigrid and not his debut (which I did not read.) The first debut book is called, "Norwegian By Night", which I may pick up. I would like to read "Still Life" based on your review.
I already had a number in my March TBR pile suitable for this challenge:Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone J.K. Rowling
The Vanderbeekers of 141st Street Karina Yan Glaser
The Girl King Meg Clothier
Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow Jessica Townsend
Looking for Alaska John Green
VIKING: The Green Land Katie Aiken Ritter
The School for Good and Evil Soman Chainani
The Kiss Quotient Helen Hoang
Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast Robin McKinley
All are debut novels for the authors concerned.
Also I'm reading
Alice I Have Been Melanie Benjamin
which was the first book written as a historical fiction/biography by this author, although she had published some contemporary works of modern philosophical bent previously under a different name...not sure if this qualifies or not.
Happy Reading!

I started Alice I Have Been a few months ago, but in attempting to clear up 2018 Challenges it got lost in the pile-Looking forward your thoughts before I begin again!
And great that you are jumping right in!

Thank you, Joanne! I was a little overwhelmed at first by this month's tag...unfortunately, my TBR doesn't fit, so I'm having to find something and these are great recommendations from my favorite genre!
