(view spoiler)[It makes me so sad that Rhen is currently trapped in his monster form. I did love watching the monster connect a bit with Harper. I feel so much empathy for the monster, just like in the animated version of BATB. I also like that we are getting these like one or two sentence chapters from the monsters perspective. Really great choice from the author. I am super sick of Harper's brother though. Can he just go home already!? (hide spoiler)]

I finished! OMG, I enjoyed this so much. Definitely more than I anticipated. As a Beauty and the Beast retelling, I love how creative Kemmerer got with it and how modern this feels. I loved the modern day girl getting swept up into this world of royal courts and curses.

(view spoiler)[I was definitely intrigued with where it went in the end with Grey particularly. I am praying Lilith is truly gone, although Grey couldn't confirm that. I was shipping Rhen and Harper so am fine with how that turned out, although I am very interested to see what happens with the relationship between Rhen and Grey more than anything else. I am hoping to start the second book very soon. I think I am going to try the audio for book 2, so just need to wait for my hold to come through at my library. Then it's on!

Oh, gosh - I'm not going to be able to start the first one for a few days. I totally forgot how many buddy reads I'd signed up for! I'm going to keep better track this month so I don't get so left behind - sorry :(

Chapter 1-15: (view spoiler)[ I like the characters a lot. I've heard of Harper having cerebral palsy prior to really knowing much else about the book. I like how fierce and determine she is and how she adjusts. I don't know if I'd have the guts to try to escape as she did, but I can appreciate her determination and bravery.

I also really like Rhen. I like how he doesn't forget or ignore his vain past, but how we see how the experience of trying to break his curse has made his perspective very insular. Admittedly, I didn't think Harper would guess the task he has to complete so fast. But it makes me intrigued because then part of the big surprise must be Rhen being the beast. Seeing her reaction to that will be interesting. (hide spoiler)]
