Something tells me that the deal that Rhen and Harper are making with each other will not turn out as planned.

It was sweet to see Harper get so emotional over Lilith torturing Rhen. She clearly cares about him. Lilith is such a piece of work. I was a little shocked that she sliced up Harper's face. But damn, I love how fierce Harper is. This whole scene is such a great representation of her character.

I am not shocked that they were attacked when they visited the city. Though I had expected that it would be some more thugs and not a disgruntled citizen.

We could do with more scenes like the dancing scene.

Omg, Rhen wants to "stoke the fire in the bedroom". Yes, please!

I love that Harper is learning how to use weapons. She is so feisty too.

Omg, yes! Rhen admits to himself that he has fallen in love with Harper. =D He is going to make Grey take her home even though that will be damning them all. And when he kisses her she doesn't hesitate to kiss him back.

Well, Harper finally knows that Rhen is the monster. What a way to ruin a perfectly good kiss, am I right?

I am so glad that Harper tells Grey to come back. And I am not so surprised that her brother doesn't believe a word she says about where she has been. (hide spoiler)]

Finished (view spoiler)[I am not sure how I feel about the end. I didn't guess that Grey was the king's son. That was definitely a surprise. If he is the son of the king and a magic-user then wouldn't he have magic too? I am sure that will come into play in the next book.

I kind of felt that the romance kind of copped out at the end. I wasn't totally satisfied with it. I needed my HEA, damn it. Rhen basically tells her that he loves her and she just "doesn't know"? She totally knows. You don't throw yourself in front of a blade for someone that you don't love. Right? Even if she expressed that she wanted to explore it further, I just felt that it should have been a sure thing at the end. -sigh-

I wasn't surprised that Rhen knew who Harper was when he was the monster. Though I wish it would have explained better how he did know since he never knew anyone before.

I am still not 100% sure if Grey is into Harper or not. Is he in love with her too? I mean, when Rhen basically told him to go back for her after all was said and done Grey didn't refute that he loved Harper. But he never said that he did either so I don't know. What do you guys think?

I really liked that the author added Jake and Noah into the story. I liked them a lot. (hide spoiler)]

Grey told Rhen that when he doesn't break the curse the girls go home, but I'm pretty sure either the monster kills them or they die some other way. I think Grey is keeping a lot of secrets (hide spoiler)]

I don't think Rhen would be mad at Grey, they're already close like brothers and you can't help who your parents are. I hope they reunite in the next book. I also agree that what Rhen said about feeding the people made sense. They both had good points so that is what made it rough.

Yeah, I was wondering if what Grey said was true about the girls going home if the curse wasn't broken. We find out that some of them died from the monster but we never found out if the other girls actually were sent home or not and that kind of bothered me.

I was also glad when Harper told Grey to come back for her. It was clear that she didn't like choosing between her family and the fate of everyone that the curse touches.

I am glad that Jake and Noah went back with Harper too. I think that they add more to the story. I wondered why Rhen recognized Harper when he was the monster but not Grey. That seemed odd to me.

I wasn't really expecting Grey to be the King's son but I liked the twist. I am not sure why he is so nervous about going back. Not many people know about his origins so I don't know why he wouldn't go back. He clearly wants to protect Rhen because he is loyal like that. And wouldn't Grey be the halfling that they were talking about because he would be the son of the King and the sorceress? So Grey would have magic? (hide spoiler)]

I am 201 pages into this book and I am really loving it so far. I still really love the characters especially Harper and Rhen I like how they are interacting so far Harper acts like a girl in her situation would and that makes it all the better of a read. I am really liking how the characters have developed so far they are very interesting to read about. I am really loving the story it moves at a really good pace not too slow or fast I am liking how the plot is progressing with the curse Rhen is under being slowly uncovered. So overall I am really liking this book and will continue soon.

I am 306 pages into this book and it is only getting better the further I get into it. I really love the characters they are developing so well I like how the relationships are developing especially the one between Harper and Rhen. I really like Harper she is the kind of character that you just root for with that can do spirit with plenty of other things that make her a great character. I am really liking the plot of this book it has great fantasy elements I am really liking how things are being slowly uncovered. So overall I am really liking this book will finish it soon.

I am 409 pages into this book and it is really is getting to the best part. I am still loving the characters especially Harper and Rhen but the other characters are interesting and well written. Their relationship has developed very well even with the setbacks that have occurred. I am really loving the plot things about the monster of the story (view spoiler)[Rhen sent Harper away to protect her and she wanted to save her family and then go back to help Rhen. Rhen was not able to get one over on the witch and becomes the monster and attacks Grey he shows up at Harper's house. (hide spoiler)] I am really enjoying this book will finish it soon.

I have finished this book it was so good there was nothing I did not like about this book. I really loved the characters I am glad the sequel is all about Grey because I really loved his character very much. I really liked how the main relationship between Harper and Rhen was finally resolved. I really loved the plot the last bit was fast paced it was mostly resolved with a few loose ends that I am sure will be resolved in the sequel.

Chapters 1-12 - I am really liking getting to know the cast of characters! I believe this is the first retelling of my favorite Disney movie so I thought I would be super harsh against it, but nope it is well written!

Chapters 13-24 - I really dislike Lilith, how she constantly tortures everyone in the castle, if she is trying to win favor this is not the way to go! I like that Rhen is letting his guard down sometimes, he seems like a very loyal royal.

Love, that aspect as well. I always found beauty and the beast to be one of my favorite movies and they did a wonderful twist with this one.

Also, I HATE Lilith! She was always bad but seeing what she did to both Rhen and then Harper when she tried to help Rhen, she's just evil!! (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[It's so bittersweet having Harper back home to her family. I'm so glad she said she'd come back and wants Grey to meet her again after she helps out her mom and brother. I'm happy she came to the realization Emberfall is home and she's stronger there. It's sad her mom died but at least her suffering is over. I'm not a big fan of Jake I feel like he talks down to her and isn't near as supportive of her as she is of him. Hoping he improves...

I'm devastated and impressed that Rhen sacrificed himself to save Emberfall by jumping/falling from the parapet. I'm both upset and happy that it didn't work because the change happened before he fell to his death. I don't want him to destroy and kill as the monster but I really don't want him to die. I need to know what happens. Back to reading. (hide spoiler)]

End: (view spoiler)[ I'm glad Karis Luran isn't queen anymore, and I hope the sisters can stay friends and stay united. This book has me torn. On it's own, I actually really like it, but as a sequel to A Curse So Dark and Lonely it fails on many levels, since Rhen (in particular) is a completely different character to who he was in the first book, and not in a way that would indicate organic character development. Though the bit at the end makes me wonder if any of that is him or what he wants, which might be in character. (hide spoiler)]
