Jason, I'm The MX Guru on YT. I was actually bummed because I realized I had just missed Bedtime Bookworms WoT read and was a little too far to catch up. Typed "WoT Read Along" in YT and found your channel. Love the super basic dialogue and style of your videos and the bookcase behind you. Keep those vids coming!

Haha, your final line made me laugh! I haven't seen an A/S/L in a long time (dating myself here too, 36/F/TX).

Im really liking the parallels to LOTR and am looking forward to it flowing out from there. The characters are great and can already see why so many people are super into these books and this world.
Ill catch up soon and be able to chat when its relevant.
Thanks Jason!!

I'm so so sorry for replying so late. No I've never read the series before, but I'm so happy I have started the books and happy to have found this group!

More stuff happens between Emond's Field and Baerlon than you may at first realize. But some things I can point out already: there is an attack (by a Draghkar I believe; a creature you haven't encountered before now), Moiraine sinks a ferry, and Rand overhears Moiraine explaining to Egwene some fundamentals of how the Magic System in this world works.
But do read it again, and this time pay attention to all the details. There is a lot packed in these chapters, but for some of it you'll have to come back once you've read more than what you've read now.

Two of the things I mentioned are world-building [a new monster and the Magic System respectively], and the 3rd is showing off what "magic" can do in this world.
It might not be all that plot-relevant [which was intentional on my part; see below], but in an Epic Fantasy like this one world-building is at least as important as driving the plot, I would say.
And, as I said, there are other details you might pick up on if you re-read the chapters between Emond's Field and Baerlon that are very plot-relevant indeed, but I am not going to mention the plot-relevant points because mentioning those would, you know.... reveal the plot.

I like the story so far and can see its potential; although some of the boys’ actions are a little immature in my opinion, I’m sure they will grow up. But can I expect to be hooked and unable to put this book down at some point soon???
That’s a tough one to answer. It really boils down to taste. I say stick with it and see. If you’re more interested in political intrigue, that’s coming. Same with the growth and development of the characters. There’s also great battles ahead. Also a very detailed world filled with different cultures.
It might not be grabbing you at this point because it all seems so familiar. If so, that’s because it is. As the books progress it really does become its own thing.
I hope that helps?

Fair warning: it is entirely possible for readers to not become (fully) immersed into the story until the second book, as that book is markedly different from the first and much more in line with the rest of the series.
I, myself, didn't become fully invested until I stated Book FOUR! But that is somewhat rare, so I don't think you'll have to worry about having to trudge through 3 books to get really invested.
But nevertheless, as mentioned, I highly recommend waiting until you get started on The Great Hunt before you judge whether the series is worth finishing for you.
Misha, I’m on book four now and it is completely blowing me away! It is my favourite so far. I’m at a loss as to why I gave it only three stars the first time I read it.

For me, I have 2 pairs of books which are my favourites of The Wheel of Time. The first is The Shadow Rising/The Fires of Heaven. The second is The Gathering Storm/Towers of Midnight. And they truly are 2 pairs. Just like EotW/TGH/TDR is really a trilogy, if you think about it.
But those 4, especially when seen as two sets of pairs, I consider to be absolutely flawless novels.
But, to use a quote I stole from a YouTuber a long time ago: Das Juz Me Tho.

I can see what you’re saying Misha! I’m halfway through now and I’m beginning to look forward to reading; just a bit. I’m also reading ‘Warbreaker’ by Brandon Sanderson, and I’m a little less tempted to let it hog all my reading time. I’m enjoying getting to know characters better now that the group has been broken up. Perrin is ‘bae’! 😝

I appreciate these things more now that I've been playing JRPGs. :D I'm not sure if that makes sense but... yes.

For this first part, chapters 1 through 14, I remember it being exciting. It was still exciting this time and I was able to focus in on the journey so far as well. I still get lost with the characters sometimes but it may have to do with the audiobook and not the story itself. My favorite chapters: Prologue, Chapters 5, 9, and 10.

You're doing well. I'm the slowest and you've passed me! haha.
edit: I responded to the wrong thread. i have finished the first book and I'm in the middle of the second so I'd love to discuss the first with you as you finish. You'll prob catch up to me soon. When it comes to Epic Fantasies 600+ pages, it takes me months to finish, usually.

Thankfully I'm listening to the audiobook! Otherwise, it would also take a long time for me to get through the entire book.
