Leslie Ross | 5 comments I've been looking for a story was in an anthology of short stories by different authors. The book was old. I think I got it at The Source or maybe a yard sale. The story ,I believe, was called The Athiest. It was about a chef who was on a plane to go to a restaurant to review a dish. He is fasting before he tries it. While he is on the plane he starts to remember the taste of something, a taste that seems familiar to him and he starts to try very hard to remember what it is. He becomes so overwhelmed by the idea that he should recognize the taste, that when he gets to his hotel, it is all he can think of, in fact he never goes to the restaurant to review the dish he came to taste, but stays in his room and becomes consumed with trying to remember. Eventually, the story cuts to a week later when the hotel staff find him dead in his room from starvation, but the story turns back at the end to the chef, who is still, even after death, in search of that which he cannot find.
