I'm asking you all to check them out and let me know which you prefer. If everyone prefers highlights and not full summaries, then I'll stick to only highlights.

That's ok Graeme. :) Take your time.

Should I go on the same way for each chapter? Is this ok?
Or does everyone prefer just the Chapter Highlights?
Please let me know guys so I know how to proceed.

Those of us who only want highlights can just skip past the lengthy descriptions.

You've been doing an amazing job so far, Laura!

I apologize but, due to of lack of time, I won't be able to make both chapter summaries and highlights for now. So I've stuck to chapter summaries.
For those of you who don't want to read them in full I've edited in bold certain sentences and key phrases, notes and paragraphs. So just look there for highlights.
Hope this works out for everybody.

[1] I'm concerned by how much effort Laura must be putting into this.
[2] I think the highlights provide pointers to the key ideas, and I think that is enough. The rest will come out through discussion.

Don't stress yourself out, it's amazing how much effort you're putting into the summaries! If you don't have enough time it's totally fine if you write shorter summaries or just post the highlights!

The dictionary app I'm using didn't find it, neither did my actual dictionary, so I wasn't sure if it's actually a common word (english isn't my first language).
According to Wikipedia it's a sort of curse and can be found in irish or welsh mythology

[1] Achieve a goal or mission, or
[2] Avoid something.
They will devote their life to the content of the geas.

Regarding the length of the summaries - they cannot be made "shorter" due to the density of the story. This volume being the start of a huge series, it gives a lot of details and info. And it gives them scattered all throughout the chapters. Like little pieces of a puzzle you need to pick up and put together so that you get the whole picture.
As Mayim has mentioned, while Malazan sprawls, this series goes deep. It is incredibly complex in depth and meaning. And to get the full meaning of it, you need to read between the lines and pay attention to details.
You will of course be able to understand even if you don't get it all. Hell! I didn't get it all by far on my first read and even got some things so wrong that they came to literally smack me in the face towards the end of the book!
I am one of those readers who at times makes assumptions and is then looking for details within the book to justify these assumptions because "I just want them to be like that!" Lots of us do that I suppose. And in my case, the assumptions got in the way of my understanding. Because Arithon's behaviour didn't make sense. Because I didn't quite get the laws and the magic. I'm one of those people who want to understand.
I was driving a few people crazy on the BR with both my questions and my "completely wrong assumptions" but I did get it in the end. Like an ice-cold water bucket dumped on my head but I had that coming! :D

You will understand it even without them!!
My notes are just meant to help along the way and possibly avoid the ice cold water bucket. :D
As Olivia mentioned on the thread, it is amazing how nice and smooth the story flows once you got all the details down and understood the basics. It makes a huge difference. All those of us who were in the first BR kept notes and kept coming back to them along the way.

You will also notice that some of the subchapters have only one sentence/paragraph as plot summary and the rest is only explanation. Of history or structure, etc.

I also looked up the word at my first read because of the same problem: non-native English speaker. And I too found the same explanation given by Graeme.
Do you want us to ask Janny if it means anything else?

That's a good idea.

Essentially a curse obligation to do or refrain from doing something.

Janny is a stickler for details and I doubt she would have meant it any other way. But just to be sure, I will ask on the Q&A.

Thank you sweety!! :)

I almost fell over!!! I will at a pic at some point. I got one of her bookmarks today with the signed bookplate and a note! Omg! I want to get them all! She’s so nice right?! 😊💕

I hope you do this for the whole series if it’s not too much trouble

I have slowed down a bit in the last few days because I got overwhelmed a bit with stuff at home but hope to get back into the rythm from tomorrow.
I am not sure if I will continue with them after this book. Not many people read them and perhaps it would be a better approach to just lend a hand while reading by building a bridge in between Janny and the readers in the BR. She has graciously agreed for the Q&A.

Don't ever say that ok!
You are sweet and sensitive and lovely and AWESOME and SMART! The fact that you read books like Curse of the Mistwraith itself and are loving them shows that YOU ARE SMART TOO! Just like everyone else here.
Don't pull yourself down lovely! YOU ROCK!!
And I will be there and explain whatever you don't understand as the series continues. If you want me to continue with the summaries and they help you then I will.💕❤😘

You’re soooooooo sweet!! ❌⭕️😘. No, the summaries are too much for you and you don’t need that! I will ask you when I get confused 😊

Thank you! :)
I'm almost done with them now. Working on Chapter 14 which should be up by tomorrow and then only 4 more Chapter Sets left.

I have already posted that since the chapter summaries are complete. Talera's background story is still missing but there are a couple of resources for that and I have asked Janny's advice to see which to choose for a better understanding. Will post that also as soon as she replies.
Hope those summaries are at least of a little help to you all.
Happy reading! :)

Perhaps take a look at the highlights after you read each chapter? That way you can get an idea what they are meant to point out.
