It's time to shake things up around here and get some sprints going again, but I wanna do things a little bit differently this time... Instead of me setting the challenge and making you all outread a goal, YOU get to challenge ME!

Here's the deal. I'm moving to Chicago on Monday *eep*!! However, I don't start work until the following Monday (Sept. 1st). I'm trying to keep the week in between very low key and commitment-free (for obvious reasons!), so I was thinking it might be good to get some reading done... and Mr. Fiance has a whole shelf of manga I haven't touched...

How many graphic novels do y'all think I can get read in a week off of work? That's the challenge--you all get to set reading goals for me. Make them reasonable but challenging; if your goal is very obviously unfairly unrealistic, and someone else agrees with me that it is, then your entry will be disqualified.

If I fail to meet or outread your goal, you'll get a prize. If, however, I read at least as many books as you guessed, you don't get a prize.

So for example, say I get three people to participate, and they set goals of 8, 10, and 15 books. If I read 9 books, the people who guessed 10 and 15 will get a prize, but the person who guessed 8 will not.

Everyone can participate, and there's no rule against people setting the same goal for me. If two people want to both guess 10 books, that's fine. You have until midnight on the 25th to enter. I have between when I get down to Chicago the night of the 25th and when I go to bed the night of the 31st to read qualifying books. Only full-length graphic novels (including manga) and comic book anthologies count. Single comic issues or other short works don't count.

As a point of reference to help you pick your entries, it takes me about a solid hour of reading to get through a typical volume of manga. (Which is about twice as long as it takes Jenni, but whatever...)

You game? Hit me with your best shot!

Amelia Sara Greene (barelyaprincess) | 2 comments Just don't steal too much of my fiancée's time from me, okay peoples. :P Also, I assume I don't qualify since I'll probably be reading a volume right next to you unless I'm doing computer work while your reading, but then I might as well not even try since when your not reading I will be. *sigh* Cruel irony.

Signed,
Mr. Fiance

Mmm, you can play if you want, but I'm not sure it will be as fun for you to get a prize from me, lol. :3 <3

Katie Daniels | 242 comments Oh, so this is like that "Guess what number I'm thinking of" game, where whoever is closest gets a prize?

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

Sort of, but instead of there being a preset number, I actually have to do the reading... :)

Sarah Sanborn | 2 comments Alright. Here is my guess and my guess is *Drum roll* 15.

message 7: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 215 comments I'm guessing 10.

Jenni Noordhoek (melodykondrael) | 145 comments I'm gonna go with 40 because it would be super nice if you did. Although I want to pick a bunch of them for you. I have so many loverly series hanging around.

message 11: by Joel (new)

Joel Parisi (joelaparisi) | 21 comments Imma guess 20. I think you can do that. :)

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey, I said nothing about you getting to pick what I read! *tongue* ;)

Woohoo for all the guesses! I'm successfully moved down--which was a two-step process (packing up and driving down yesterday, and offloading today), but went smoothly. So now I'm settling into my week off, and we'll see what happens. I think I'll keep going on Deathnote first... :)

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

I read two volumes (Deathnote 4 & 5) today. I think it took me like two solid hours to read vol. 4 though... >.<

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

Jenni suggested that I should probably supplement my reading with something a little less complicated than Deathnote to give myself more of a fighting chance. LOL So I read vols 1 & 2 of Pixie Pop today, which is typical cheap shojo... Not usually what I'm into, but it's only 3 volumes, so I'll finish it tomorrow.

message 15: by Annie (new)

Annie Hawthorne (curiouswren) I say "12."

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Sorry, sugar, guessing closed on Monday. :)

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished the third volume of Pixie Pop and am halfway through another of Deathnote...

message 18: by Annie (new)

Annie Hawthorne (curiouswren) Ohhhh. Oops. :)

Okay dokay! Saturday night I finished Deathnote Vol. 6. Then I decided to switch to comic collections for a change of pace... and also because I hadn't turned on my Kindle in who-knows-how-long and I was certain there were some graphic novels on my Comixology app that I hadn't read. So on Sunday I managed to get through:

Superman: Earth One (which was really, really good)
Batman: Earth One
My Little Pony: The Magic Begins (which was evidently made by screen-capping the original episodes... not sure what the point was)
My Little Pony: When Cutie Calls

I also started another Batman graphic novel, but I gave up when I realized it was nearly 300 pages long and it was already 2am. LOL

So unless I'm a total dunce with math, that means I read a total of 10 books. Which means Hannah must be a psychic! Cooooool! Except she doesn't get a prize for it. Bummer, must be tough knowing everything. :( ;)

That means the rest of you beat me and I have to think up a prize for you. Hmm, time to brainstorm. Technically I think I should disqualify Jenni since she's the only one who guessed over 20... I mean really, girl, you know me better than that!! But since she's my bestie I can just deal with her in private, muhaha.

I will get back to the rest of you later. At the moment I am supposed to be formatting, and if my fiance finds out I'm updating Goodreads instead he will give me the sad puppy dog face because he wants to play Minecraft after I finish formatting... and I stood him up last night because I was reading. Sooooo.

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 215 comments Ha ha! Actually, I did say a prayer before I guessed. ;)
By the way, when is the wedding? Forgot to ask that before...

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

We're hoping for February at this point... :) <3

message 22: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 215 comments Oh, delightful!! Four months...

message 23: by Jenni (new)

Jenni Noordhoek (melodykondrael) | 145 comments I feel like I should be disappointed in you as I figured you would get more than 10 done... lol.

message 24: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Sanborn | 2 comments Haha nice. Really 10 is pretty good, I'm a slow reader myself (:

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

Jenni, you should know me better than that. I should really disqualify your entry, but I'll be nice. :3

message 26: by Jenni (new)

Jenni Noordhoek (melodykondrael) | 145 comments I should know you better BUT I HAD HOPE sigh. <3 i like nice Leah I gives her hugs. <3
