ABANDONED. Children's book: Shoes keep returning despite guy trying to throw them out

HI. Children's book I read in late 70's/early 80's - about a guy who keeps trying to get rid of his old shoes (throws them out etc) but they keep being returned to him by folks trying to be helpful. I want to say called something like "Shoes of Tanburry" but that's not right I don't think. Please help. Thank you!!!
