Kayli Schaaf | 11 comments I'm looking for a beta to read a finished manuscript. About 2 months ago, I went through a romcom movie kick, and most of them left me feeling icky by the end. Why are the men such irredeemable jerks? Why are the love interests always men? Why is there never any diversity? I was annoyed. So I wrote my own. It's got meet cutes and a love triangle between the boy next door and the life long BFF. But what if the neighbor actually isn't a jerk? And what if the BFF is a woman?

Content warning: These are adult characters in their mid-20s. LGBTQ themes. Sex. Language. Mental health.

What I'm looking for from a beta:
- I'd like the beta to enjoy the genre
- identify basic typos, tense issue (this is my first attempt with present tense)
- any continuity issues
- suggestions to trim to 100K
- thoughts on a title

I'd like to send the first three chapters to determine interest to anyone willing to give it a read. Message me with your rates and websites, if available.

Thanks!
Kayli

Hi Kayli,

It sounds like you're looking for an editor more than a beta reader. You may want to look into an editor at this stage as they can answer all of your concerns and questions and assist you with reducing word count. Betas typically are for books that have already been edited.
