I have recently finished “The Hate U Give” by Angie Thomas. This incredible story had a heart wrenching plot and an amazing back meaning. This inspiring novel goes into educating its readers about the of African-Americans and what they faced with the educational and judicial systems. The novel is a thriller that takes you into a murder case. The main character, Starr Carter, witnessed her best friend, Khali’s, murder. Should starr Carter speak up? Throughout the story, star observes the way her community is impacted by this murder trial. This trial has fueled many by the racism aspects and hate towards African-Americans. Starr struggles to find herself and her love for others of the same culture. She is faced with many decisions that test her and her personal beliefs. As she learns to accept her ‘black identity’ Starr finds her courage and strength in life. At the end of this emotional novel, Angie Thomas takes a minute to write about the true stories that connect this amazing story. She introduces Michael Brown Jr, Eric Garner and many more cases like the one Starr was involved in take place everyday in the United States and it’s something we all should be aware of. I personally did not know much about the judicial system and what took place. This book was very eye opening for me and I learned a lot about the hate and racism that occurs in the courts. I would definitely recommend this book, as it was a great read with an amazing meaning behind it. Also, i just saw this movie is offered on Netflix! I had no idea this book was also a movie and i cannot wait to watch it. I think that this movie will move a lot of people and inspire them to read the book. The book and the movies are always different in many ways, so i am interested to see what is in store!
