Kelly | 1003 comments Ben Bradlee was the executive editor of the Washington Post from 1968 to 1991. He was a charismatic person who became famous in his own right by how he led the newspaper. The book tells of Bradlee’s interactions with the newspaper’s owner Katharine Graham, his friendship with Jack Kennedy, Watergate and his personal life. Years later it is still a interesting story

The book does humanize Bradlee by including some of the controversial times at the Washington Post and it shows that his personal life was not perfect. The author also includes information from documents and conversations that have created some friction between Himmelman and Bradlee’s family and also with writer Bob Woodward. Overall it gives a good picture of Bradlee along with his accomplishments and the added letters written by Bradlee through his tenure at the paper are a good way to show his personality.

Theresa | 15659 comments Ooh, did not know about this book! One of the best books I've ever read was Katherine Graham's memoir Personal History - a total page turner and the source material for much of the movie The Post. This sounds so interesting as a companion...and thanks for your great review.
