The underlying theme was about the action hero market in old movies. The protagonist is similar to the one from Armor by Steakley, Same attitude. Somebody recommended this book to me and I know it had great reviews, it was part of a series pretty old but only the first book is good. I didn't save it on goodreads and now I cannot remember the title. Sorry if I'm too vague.
