Kadijah Michelle (kadmich) | 2176 comments This thread is to discuss the Leigh Bardugo book, Six of Crows, the 1st book in the Six of Crows #1.

Pages: 480 pages

Length: 1 month

Participants: Ariel, Fatima, Julia, Satin, Yajahyra

Everyone reads at their own pace during a Buddy Read. Because participants can be at different parts of the book at different times, it is extremely important to mark spoilers so that the book is not ruined for someone who is not as far along as others!!!

Mark spoilers by placing {spoiler} before the text and {/spoiler} after the text but use the < and > instead of the { and }.

Happy Buddy Reading!

Ariel (lamot_amant) | 728 comments Hey, everyone! Hope you don't mind me hopping in on this one. I wasn't sure I would be able to get to this book this month but I finished it yesterday.

It felt like a very fast read and I really enjoyed it. I was hoping to find a really good YA series to get hooked on after finishing Sarah J. Maas' Throne of Glass series so I actually picked this up awhile ago but never got to it. Also wasn't sure if I needed to read Shadow and Bone first in order to get what was going on.

How about y'all? Have you read Shadow and Bone/do you think it should be read first or do you think the Six of Crows duology stands on its own?

Have to say that I think Bardugo writes massively complicated relationships very well without them taking over too much of the storyline and without instalove breaking out all over the place. Feel like she was able to write relationships that made sense, given her characters' backstories and involvement with each other, while still being able to sketch a mature idea of what love is.

I love the quote... (view spoiler)

for pretty much that reason. I think there are a lot of YA books out there that would have stopped at the first part of that quote and had plenty of readers swooning a bit. But it's the latter part that provides the mature aspect, what you learn about love over time.

I'm interested, just picked up the next book actually. I'm playing catch up on a book from last month but I think I'll probably pick it up next.

Irma Alam (irmaalam) | 145 comments This was such a beautiful book. I got the collector's edition as a gift. The sense of cunning and adventure in this book kept me excited throughout. I love how the romance is not the central plot but just comes and goes like it's teasing you.
