Renske | 12231 comments Are there any characters or settings in common?

kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude | 2510 comments Why are you asking this (have never come across the question before) when the titles are clearly (as in it's on the covers!) set up as a series?

Renske | 12231 comments According to our policies books need to have characters or settings in common to be a series. Books with only a theme in common shouldn't be a series on Goodreads, even if they are marked such on the cover or elsewhere.

We ask more often people this question when it is not clear.

kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude | 2510 comments But if the author calls it a series who is GR to disagree?

The fact is the books do 'have characters or settings in common' and I doubt she would call it a series otherwise.

On the Goodreads site, Goodreads policies apply. Many authors call groups of books with only a common theme a series. But they are not a series on Goodreads.

Can you please provide more details about these commonalities?

kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude | 2510 comments It appears to me that you are being deliberately gatekeeping here.

The author has called it a series, I have confirmed above "the books do 'have characters or settings in common' " and you are still questioning?

Is providing additional details about the common characters or settings a problem?

kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude | 2510 comments It is when

a) I have already answered the initial question,
b) with all the series links I've requested previously I've never been asked that before, and
c) Goodreads policies aside, as (and yes I'm repeating myself again here) the author has called this is a series and therefore there is a good reason for her to do so and include that information on the covers.

How many series link requests is this question asked for? Is this common practice that I've only just come across or is there a random quota that needs to be fulfilled? Every time someone looks to request a series link are they expected to check that "common characters or settings" apply?

The only reason I was able to answer the question the first time around was to read some reviews of both books and came across characters that appear in both as I've not yet read either of them myself.

So again, please add the appropriate series link.

You could of course do a search yourself, but here are a few recent examples:

If it is not clear from the books themselves, it is a question that needs to be asked, and answered.
