Great expectations , I have read it....but will surely re read it.
This has been on my TBR for a while......I will try to join in if possible although I have a few other books to read in mind

Just met Miss Havisham via Pip...(at 15%)
At 20%. Childhood days revisted. Dickens is always so nostalgic for me.
My copy has an introduction to Great Expectations and Charles Dicken's writing in general by John Irving. It seems though some of his characters may come across as too imaginative, it seems they are all based on real-life characters. He talks about Miss Havisham mainly. A bit lengthy introduction but worth reading. Have just read 10 pages of the novel. Seen the movie a long time back but remember very little. Will resume today.

No spoilers per se. I wanted to know what I was getting into. Haven't read any Dickens before this. And had problems with Jane Austen.

It shouldn't have been a surprise but jumping into Dickens right after a run with so much from modern literature has been tough. I already gave up on this book a week ago. I will begin afresh today.

I too started a couple of days back. A bit slow n boring . Hope it improves. Have reached the part where pip just spent the first day at Miss Havershams place
I've reached Pip's 2nd day at Miss Havishams and I find the novel quite good so far. Like the understated humor in the writing.

170+ pages into it. Have come to the point where it is explained why the novel is named 'Great Expectations'. Really liking it. What is happening would resonate with anyone who wants to do something else in life from what they are actually doing and is suddenly thrown a chance to have a go at what you want. Love the writing.
Just past the section where pip spends another intriguing day at the haversham house. It’s piqued my interest now. What are all these unusual things happening !!
I enjoyed the writing and the subtle humor. Just finished the book. I heard its more uplifting compared to his other novels about bleak 19th century English life. Brings to mind the saying that you never know what you miss until its gone.
By mistake I ordered the abridged version. Hope I would be of some help to daughter now. Nonetheless I'm finding it hard to find momentum and skipped to another book. Feb is already over but still I am planning to finish it

Well into March but only 57% done . Plan to finish off within the next few days. Pip is finally beginning to understand the pressures of the great expectations.
Same story with me. About 60% done. But, intending to complete it soon.

Dickens was my favorite author till maybe a week back till Em*bedded-in-books* shared that article.He no doubt had a disturbed life himself too. But that can't be an excuse

I know I should separate the author from his personal life ... But I am unable to.
I finally finished the book! I quite liked the book. It was a nice blend of humour, mystery and tragedy.
I have read the book 8 years ago. I started reading it again as a part of my research on the Dicken's style of writing. So did not read the complete work. Would love to. Joining this group gives me the exra incentive to start again. I will be slow though. I will complete it in my own sweet time. Any prizes for the slowest of us all? Ravi Krish
