Pepper | 2 comments I read this book at my grandma's in the early 00's, but it's disappeared and all I remember are the illustrations and one of the characters, a grizzled white bearded sailor who I remember was heading up a lighthouse path sextant in hand to star gaze, only the stars were are actually these silver hot air balloon lanterns, though he didn't know. And one of them fell and was discovered by the children in the story, I think. There were also these elf-like people in pointed hats whom I remember one of the star-people or children discovered one day through a door in a tree in which there was a long hallway with blue doors, and in every room was a sleeping elf (?)... Vague, but does anyone have an idea???

Pepper | 2 comments I think one of the characters (one of the stars?) was named Stella.

Pepper is still looking for this.

"Children’s Fantasy book, big & illustrated, possibly graphic novel. Features little Elves living in a hollow tree & an old man who releases lanterns that turn out to be stars. He lives in a lighthouse & is a sea captain, I think. Read early 2000s.

I’d say it was an inch or so thick? But it was a tall book. And I think it was several stories about that world in the one book."

Pepper, are the illustrations: simple or detailed, realistic or cartoon-like, painted watercolors or bold graphics, bright or dark colors? Do they remind you of a similar book illustrator?

Capn | 3506 comments Do you feel like it was a recent book, or an older one? Published around the 2000s, or the 1960s, for example?
