I liked the short story a lot. I hope everyone else does too.

The short story was so good, I'd never even heard of it until now! I've been reading the first novel repeatedly since I was just 13 and I enjoy it every time like it's the first.
I have been listening to the audiobook version. The narrator is really good. I can see his voice actually being Odd Thomas.
Just reaching chapter 3 on Odd Thomas. I enjoying the series at the moment. Odd Thomas so far is a extremely likable character.
I was wondering why I didn't see any more on this and then find 53 new messages on the topic. Apparently, GoodReads never notified me of new messages...I just finished the short story. I was a bit disappointed.
That stinks Randy. I know how you feel I was looking forward to Strange Weather last month and was massively disappointed. If you read the main novel I hope you enjoy it more.
when I read short story my first thought was it was fun, when I thought about it for a couple days, I felt like it did not have much depth. Would of liked to read more about how the two met up. Then I thought its only a short story, which is limited in how much info can fit in. So hopefully the actually series is got more to it. I giving it a chance at the moment. At least the characters are extremely likeable, which encourages me more read about them.
So the ghosts can't speak. Why not have something like an Ouija board, so they can point to the icons on it to communicate. Even just answering yes/no questions could make a difference. Of course, there would still be the issue of whether the ghost could be trusted.I did like the bit about Elvis.
I felt like the short story was like a trailer or sneak peak for the main novel. It kind of set up what is to be expected from the series
chapter 7 for me so far. The story is filling up on character development at moment. Its got a nice flow so far. How is everyone else doing ?
I am up to chapter 15. I am enjoying it so far. I am going to sign on to read the rest of the books in this series, especially if everyone else is having fun too. I think this is going to be a fun buddy read series.
I like mostly everything so far. The paranormal detective stuff reminds me of the set up to Buffy The Vampire Slayer. I used to enjoy that tv show a lot
I work at a library and some of my coworkers read Odd Thomas at my recommendation a while ago. They both thought that there was too much character development and too many backstories, but I find all the characters to be so alive and unique that it never bothered me at all. Also, of all the times I've read this, I've never likened it to Buffy but I totally see it now. xD
I just reached chapter 20 last night. Things are starting to heat up! I am glad I am not the only one that sees a little similarities to Buffy The Vampire Slayer. I love paranormal private investigators and vigilantes.
wow this book is surprising me ! He is a very descriptive writer Dean Koontz. But never expected chapter 9 very weird and creepy
Hey guys ! I'm still in chapter 6 and it's because i couldn't start this book earlier this month so I just picked it up two days ago.
I'm liking it so far and Odd's humour reminds me a lot of Percy jackson as a character.
Also , isn't anyone of you feeling bad that the author spoiled an Agatha christie book ?
I was like DUDE WHAT IF I WANT TO READ THIS BOOK IN THE FUTURE?
It still bothers me I don't know why :')
I slowed down my reading too! I had some online class work so I am still on chapter 20 of the audiobook. Not sure if that is the same or equals chapter 20 of the regular paperback or ebook. For all I know I might be behind everyone else. ;-)
Fadoua it did annoy me when I read at the time, but forgot about what I read so did not spoil my future Agatha Christie future read. But I do not like when authors give endings away, even if the story is famous.
Thanks buddy. Based on the time I have left it looks like I am near the half way point. I love it so far though. I am totally down for the rest of the series if you and the others are loving it as well.

That sound awesome my friend. I really like Stormy as a character and I think she is really interesting. She is more then just Odd’s girlfriend and I hope she continues to develop and evolve
I am loving the voice acting in the audiobook. The guy they picked to narrate and voice Odd was perfect in my opinion. I love his humble portrayal of Odd
Stormy not really part of the story yet, on chapter 14. She only appeared once although she is talked about often. In the prequel short story she was a major part of the story. Hope she starts to have more time in the story at some point
I am also enjoying that Elvis cameos so much in this series. I listened to a few documentaries on the King, and it is nice the author got so many details about him right.
I'm on chapter 23 and I was bored at some parts but now I'm curious to know what could possibly happen .So far I'm liking Stormy .She's annoying :p !!
My one nitpick is that sometime info is repeated more then once. It is regurgitated a few times and it comes off like padding. But since I am listening to the audiobook I don’t mind it as much. I like the refresher lol ;-)
Oh gosh, I so love Stormy. She and Odd are two of my favorite fictional characters of all time. I adore how lovingly she nags hims and how fearless she is :P But I do agree that a lot of information is repeated. It's interesting being in this group because this has been my favorite book for a loooong time, and so I've always had a really biased opinion of it, but now it's interesting to hear others' opinions and try to look at it objectively.
I agree. Their relationship is the best part of the book. I love their interactions because it feels so genuine and real. I think most people strive to have that kind of playful humor in their relationship at one point or another
The book is very slow to pick up. Good in a way for me, as need something soft and not to demanding at the moment. Helps me relax. The mystery behind the story is interesting, but feel like this story is more of an introduction. Hope it picks up more as although I am not bored yet, fear I may become soon.
the relationship between Odd and Stormy is really great. So nice and romantic. She reminds me a little of my wife sometimes
Wow! I didn’t expect this book to be so divisive! Very interesting! Curious to see who else makes it to the end!
yep I like this book, it did slow down but now its picked up I am really liking it. Am I the only one still reading ? I noticed on my GR feed my friend Jonathan is reading the graphic novels. Good on you mate !
I finished and waiting to see what everyone thinks too. I am keeping myself busy with other mini novels while we decide on future buddy reads at the moment :) The graphic novels were fun. :-)
I recommend the graphic novels to Theresa. Especially since she loves the relationship between Stormy and Odd. It is great to see the two of them working on adventures together in those stories
how about Friday ? Going to try to increase my reading amount. Had extra work load and am playing a old D & D computer game at same time so being just reading one chapter a day. Things are back to normal now though.
ok guys this Friday 8th March we are going to start sequel to Odd Thomas, Forever Odd. Who is going to join us ?
So far we have
Jonathan
Mehmet
Kasia
Krystle
I tried reaching out to a few through private message. I think this will be a smaller group this time around
