Chevonne | 5 comments A man whose wife is ill and can not walk due to years of feet binding, a cultural custom, leaves on a ship to America during the gold rush. Please help! I read this book when I was younger but never finished. I can not stop thinking about it! I read this about 10 years ago.

What language did you read it in, and what age group was it for?

Chevonne ~~
You can "bump" your thread every month or so. This pushes your thread back to the top of the folder instead of languishing here on page 173 where fewer eyes will see it. Get back in the game! Bump!
You can do this by typing a new comment at the end of the thread, or even by typing the word "bump."
Good luck!

Sarah Heartsdale (sarahheartsdale) | 59 comments I'm pretty sure that I know the book! It must be "Daughter of fortune" by Isabell Allende (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...).
The book is written from the perspective of Eliza Sommers and the Chinese doctor Tao Chien - the man whose first wife had had her feet bound. He and Eliza meet on the ship, where she is a blind passenger.
