New Year Book Resolutions?

My reading goal is to read books that will earn either a four or five star rating when I'm done. Wouldn't it be wonderful if it happens?

I am in 4 book groups. So my thang is to make sure that I read 3 consecutive books of similar color; one of which has to be a non fiction book. This way I can still get through my varied and random choices while also keeping up with the book club books. Plus it just keeps things interesting if I make a game out of it.

Nice topic, especially since I assume that it is a very diverse topic, as I imagine people from all over the place are doing some sort of body-building. Definitely sounds interesting though:)

That sounds like a great New Year Resolution. People say they have so many tbr-books, then I tell them that I have like 140 books on my tbr on Goodreads and they are silent;)

I'm particularly intrigued right now by the fact that weight training for women seems to have #1 a longer history than I initially realized and #2 followed much the same waves of feminism that we've read elsewhere (i.e. okay to be strong at certain times like during the world wars when we needed strong mothers and replacement factory workers, and not okay at other times when women were supposed to be frail and not threaten the definition of masculinity).
The right book at the right time makes so much more sense, doesn't it? If I hadn't read what I've already read, some of what I'm reading now would be dull or nearly meaningless to me. Now I can ask more questions, and engage with the topic on new levels. Who knows where we'll be a year from now?

Do you ever come across a book, either for a group or as a gift or a recommendation, and you sit back and go.. "this one isn't for me right now."
And I don't mean that you just don't have time or don't want to read it, but rather something inside of you is just being honest that you are not quite THERE or intune with a certain concept or in the right place to comprehend it? As if you still had something to do or to learn before whatever secrets the book hold will make sense to you?
I dunno. I feel that way a lot sometimes about books. Hence why I do this random color item; tht way it's more left to chance. I don't think this is anxiety. But to call it a higher power speaking through me is also wrong. I dunno.

My Goodreads TBR list got off count once. Bothered me so much I deleted a whole bunch. Now I only add the books I think I'll have a reasonable chance of acquiring and reading within the next couple of months. Trying to keep it under twenty. But my secret list is much, much longer! :-)

I don't necessarily have that with myself - but when I look for books for others. I want other people to learn something from the books that I recommend them, or gift them, and sometimes I think: Hmmm, it's a really good book, but that person isn't far enough yet to understand the book. I don't want people to misunderstand something and then bring people the book is about in a weird situation, because the reader didn't get the message.
I hope you know what I mean.
As for reading books, I rather read them instantly and don't wait too long or I lose interest in them... like, don't wait 8 years, the book might not be of interest to you then... (that happened already to me, which is why now I read my books rather sooner than later)

This happens to me all the time.
During YA Week some of my GR friends told me I should try a YA book even though I don't normally read YA. So I followed their recommendations and chose a book that sounded like I might enjoy.
Once I started reading I knew it wasn't for me, but I finished it and ended up giving it one star because I disliked it so intensely. My friends were bewildered when they discovered I didn't like it; but at least they have stopped trying to get me to join them in their buddy reads. I've found a couple people whose tastes are more similar to my own and we have been having a great time with our buddy reads.

As an offhand compliment, I think you did an excellent job of this for me. Not that you had control over what books my library would have, but you nudged me in the right direction. I read three books on your recommendation. If I'd read them in any other order than I did, like third book first, I likely would have put it down, overwhelmed, and not made it further. Sometimes baby steps are necessary in opening one's mind to new ideas. Of course, it helps to have someone to discuss it with!

Thank you for this compliment. That makes me very happy.

with a priority for books read by POC, queer people, or (straight, white) women; especially science-fiction, poetry, and adventure.
I'm so far behind with the readings recommended by both my Goodreads bookclubs (OMR and OSS) that... I just add the books to my to-read list and hope to find the time to read them... one day ^^'
I personally will read only books that feature people of color or are written by people of color?
Havs anyone of you similar goals?
