Old joke: How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.

How do you read a huge classic? One way is a bite at a time. The mobile (iOS and Android) app Serial Reader feeds you a small chunk of your book each day. It got me through 25% of Les Miserables before I wandered off. I powered it up now to nudge myself to read The Idiot.

The developer has to prepare each book for the app (the daily chunks aren't random), so very many books are available but obviously not all. The texts are free, which means most of them are Classics. You won't find recent books here.

Anyone else here using it?

FWIW it doesn't limit you to reading only one chunk a day. It just nudges you to read at least one chunk a day (or whatever period you specify?)

Ivan (walking_disaster) | 10 comments Not related to piece of software above but here is some software I'm using and I tried lot of apps over the years.

Ebooks: Moon+ reader. In my experience by far the best reading app for tablets and mobile phones. There is add-free premium version but even free version has most of features you will ever need and adds are not intrusive (the never appear during the reading only on bottom when browsing the shelf )

Calibre- Great software free for managing ebook collection on PC (for reading too for those who can read on PC).

For comicbooks: Perfect viewer for long time I was using Comicrack and I still do on my PC but on my tablet (on which I read most of my comcbooks/graphic novels) I prefer Perfect viewer. It's free and has no adds and it has good UI.

Comicrack. My favorite program for managing my comicbook collection on my PC. It's free and supports itself on donations (at least for PC it's different for mobile platforms).

Audiobooks: Mort player. Great completely free audiobook player for android. It has all the features you may need for audiobook.

I use Moon+ for my non-DRM ebooks. It syncs my reading position via Google Drive. It directly accesses Calibre over my local wi-fi. It directly connects to the Gutenberg Project. Etc.

I am an enthusiastic user of Calibre. It has a fantastic support base at https://www.mobileread.com/forums/for...
