Elise (ellinou) In 1915, Eve comes to Northern France to become an English spy. Hiding behind her stutter, she immerses herself in the restaurant of a collaborator to listen to the Germans, and reports her finding to Alice/Lili, the leader of the most successful spy right.

In 1947, Charlie, an American pregnant young woman, comes to France in search of her cousin Rose, who disappeared during WWII. She finds Eve, who grudgingly helps her, especially when she realises that her story and Rose's are more similar than she thought.

HOW WAS THIS BOOK SO GOOD?! Everything was amazing, the characters were great, their relationships were fascinating, everything that happened was so engrossing... In another boo, the romance element would have been clichéd and tacky, but here, it just worked!

And I loved that we never did really find out the whole truth about Rose. Just like Charlie never would. Just like so many people never knew what happened to people they loved during the war. The mystery stays open, but it doesn't feel unfinished. It feels like we're not supposed to know everything.

I know a lot of people here have already read this, but if you haven't, do it. DO IT NOW!
