Located in the Scottish Highlands, this legendary establishment has educated witches and wizards of the highest caliber for centuries. Hogwarts graduates have gone off to become famed healers, aurors, and Quidditch players. Students begin their first year at age eleven, and graduate their seventh year at age seventeen. First years are sorted into one of four Hogwarts houses:

Founded by Godric Gryffindor and represented by a lion, this house prizes bravery, courage, and determination. The common room is located in one of the highest towers of the castle, and it is guarded by the portrait of the Fat Lady, who only opens the door to those who know the password.

Founded by Salazar Slytherin and represented by a snake, this house prizes pride, ambition, and cunning. The common room is located in the dungeons under the Great Lake, and can only be accessed through a secret entrance by those who know the password.

Founded by Rowena Ravenclaw and represented by an eagle, this house prizes wit, learning, and wisdom. The common room is located in the west tower of the castle, and is guarded by an eagle-shaped knocker who asks for the answer to a riddle to all those who seek entrance.

Founded by Helga Hufflepuff and represented by a badger, this house prizes patience, loyalty, and fair play. The common room is located next to the castle kitchens, and can be accessed by tapping the bottom barrel in the still-life that guards the entrance.

Students live in their house's dormitories in the Hogwarts castle for the duration of the school year, and have the choice of leaving or staying in the winter break. On designated weekends students on their third year and above are allowed to go to the nearby village of Hogsmeade.

Impeccable behavior is expected from Hogwarts students. Misdeeds are punishable by the loss of house points and detentions. Good behavior is rewarded by granting house points. The house points are stored in four massive hourglasses in the Great Hall, and at the end of the year the house with most points wins the House Cup.

The Hogwarts student body is led by a Head Boy and Girl, seventh years chosen for their academic excellence and disciplinary record, and six prefects per house, chosen as fifth years and carrying out their roles until they graduate. Prefects are disciplinary enforces and can take off points and give out punishments. They also lead first years to their dormitories on their first night at Hogwarts, patrol the Hogwarts Express as well as corridors after curfew, and watch over younger students. The Head Boy and Girl on the other hand, lead the prefects and are the student representatives with the headmaster.

Students are allowed to join a variety of organizations, the most popular being the house Quidditch teams. Quidditch is the most popular wizarding sport, with a World Cup hosted approximately every four years and a Hogwarts Cup played every year. Quidditch teams are composed of seven players: three Chasers, two Beaters, a Keeper, and a Seeker. Chasers must attempt to score in one of the three hoops of the opposing team with the Quaffle, while Beaters keep Bludgers away from their teammates and direct them towards the opposite team. The Keeper defends their team's hoops, and the Seeker must catch the Snitch, which gets the team 150 points and ends the game.

The ancient castle is said to be one of the safest places in the wizarding world, which is particularly important in recent times with the rise of a dark and powerful wizard. In 1970, Lord Voldemort declared himself the Dark Lord. Since then, his followers, calling themselves Death Eaters, have infiltrated the Ministry of Magic and launched attacks against everyone they deem "inferior", particularly muggles and muggle-borns. They seek to establish a new order where pureblood wizards are in control and Voldemort is the immortal ruler.

It's 1976. Progressive Minister of Magic Eugenia Jenkins has been pushed from her post and replaced by Harold Minchum, who people hope can stop the menace. Meanwhile in Hogwarts, Headmaster Albus Dumbledore is doing everything in his power to maintain the students safe, including working with the Order of the Phoenix to defeat his old student. Within Hogwarts there are those who seek to fight He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, and there are others who are sympathetic to his cause. A storm is coming, and even the ancient stone walls of the castle won't be able to stop it.
