Hush ate a modest breakfast, not one to be super hungry in the morning, and Shade downed his own. He looked to Kimberly. “Are you working today?” He asked her since he wasn’t sure after all. Part of him still wished he could do something to help with earning some money but well she didn’t like the swindling thing of course, there didn’t seem to be much more that he could do...

((Oh good lord poor Kim!))
Shade gave a nod. Unfortunately he wasn't a mind reader so he of course only thought Kim was fine and dandy. "Alright, noted." He sighed. "There's got to be some way I can help you with getting some money. I don't expect you to pay for all of us all the time." He said. "I guess I can start with returning those things, see if I get a refund." He smirked a little. "If that's okay with you?" Since he'd used those things for attempted 'racketeering' he wondered if she'd like the fact he was now attempting to exchange them for a full refund.

((Yeah, it will go further sadly))
Shade nodded in response though he smiled tightly about her telling him not to worry about it right now. "Alright..." He said, sounding a little reluctant, but he did nod pointedly as she gave him at least something to maybe help with. "Sure." He then tilted his head. "So, I was going to use the refund money to go and get Hush a new shirt, do you want me to see if I can also buy a little fabric? It'll only be from the cheap store but, it'll be something." He offered with a shrug.

She went to move towards the door making sure she had her phone keys and all that. “Oh, and be careful when you go to take that stuff back? I don’t know if that person who is angry or someone else might see you there and it could turn into a bad situation. And especially if they involve the police, because they won’t let you just give them their money back to make it right. Unfortunately some people seem to just want to vengeance instead of repayment.” She sounded genuinely concerned and she really just wanted them to be safe. “In fact if you want I can take the stuff back?”
Shade sagged slightly, knowing there was no point in arguing. And really, he was glad for Kim’s kindness. “Alright...” he just said softly but then smiled. “We’ll see what’s there.” As she warned him about being careful Shade nodded grimly in acknowledgement though he gave her an amused look as she asked if she could take it back. “I can take care of myself don’t worry.” He said lightly. “Besides it’s probably better if the person who bought the items is the one to return it.” He glanced at Hush. “But yeah, I think I’ll go on my own, I want you to stay here in the apartment Hush. Is that alright buddy?” He asked the boy. “No different to waiting for me in alleyways right? In fact it’s better.”
Hush hesitated but he gave a nod as he didn’t seem too reluctant about it. As unfortunate as it was for Kim’s feelings, Shade knew it was likely better that she was going to work so Hush would be staying here alone, not with her, he might be less willing to do that. Shade waved to Kim as she prepared to leave. “See ya later then.”

She forced herself to smile and thankfully had earned some nice tips in the beginning part of her shift, which was a rare occasion. Though a few wealth businessmen seemed to take a liking to her smile and voice. Thankfully they acted gentlemanly, well all but one. Fortunately he was easier to avoid. Than the other three.
“Bye.” Shade called back. Though as it turned out he ended up waiting a while before he headed out, making sure Hush was comfortable and making sure there didn’t seem to be any way someone could slip into the apartment or something, making sure Hush would be safe. So it would be more than 3 hours into Kim’s shift when he finally left, gathering up the items and making the walk to the store. He had to bargain and charm a little for the refund but eventually he got it. Then he searched for a new shirt for Hush and, begrudgingly, one for himself, since it was getting increasingly worn and torn. Then he went on his way back.
((Poor Kim I hate to do this when she’s already having so much trouble already :( But anyway... have her be on her way home from work but not go into the building just yet ;) ))

The ironic thing was Kim was trained enough that she could have grab the hand, her coworker decided to point into her chest to express her dissatisfaction twisted in such a way in Pender against the locker in one swift movement maybe even dislocating her wrist. And it would be a lie to say she didn’t imagine doing that however she said nothing and left.
True had it been a man she would’ve responded the exact same way, she wasn’t supposed to use any of the training she got for selfish reasons, is to be used to protect others. Not be a vigilante or seek petty revenge. So even though the shift had gone well aside from the one rough bump at the end she felt considerably drained, and it took a lot of effort to walk upright and try and seem upbeat she left the diner and headed home.
One thought managed to cheer her up some. She ate had really wanted to do something to help out, with this money she got today she would let him go and get things for the Houston maybe if he had any talent for woodwork or something he could help fix some of the furniture that had broken spots or any more furniture they may find later.
((It’s fine! ^_^ you know I love your ideas, I’m even more curious now!))
As it would turn out, Kim might have to use that training of hers to indeed protect another as she was supposed to.
Shade headed back to the apartment with the single plastic bag of the couple of shirts he'd bought for Hush and himself. He took the back streets, heeding Kim's advice about watching out for any angry people like that man who might be looking for him after yesterday. But apparently it wasn't them he should have been worried about... Near to Kim's apartment, Shade felt an intense prickling at the back of his neck, a strong feeling that he was being watched. He glanced over his shoulder and narrowed his eyes, suddenly itching he could turn into an animal and take off but he didn't want to draw more attention to himself... Shade instead just picked up his pace, hoping he merely looked like he urgently wanted to get somewhere.
He was almost to the apartment building, but then he noticed a car parked on the curb just out front of it. A very familiar car... It was not very busy in this area, not too many witnesses... Shade felt a shiver snake down his spine. He knew that car... And a moment later his hunter came out into the open, around the corner from the apartment building. "Hello there Mateo..." he drawled. The same man who had snatched him 4 years ago, all the way back in Argentina. Shade didn't even know his name. And he didn't care. Shade spun and bolted, darting down the nearest alley just north of the apartment building. But apparently that was exactly what they had anticipated of him. They'd set up an ambush for him like predators for their prey.
For when Shade ducked down the alley he was instantly shouldered and slammed hard into the wall, then pinned with one arm trapped against the brickwork and the other wrenched behind him by his attacker. Shade grunted and squirmed ferociously, dropping his bag and summoning all his strength to try and shove against his assailant.
"Well, well, you got pretty far didn't you?"
Shade almost froze at the chilling voice. It was Brom. The owner of the brothel he'd been sold to, that his captor worked for. No wonder he was having trouble. With Brom's tall, broad and buff figure, one would probably never expect to be a businessman of any sort, let alone the owner of something like a brothel. But Brom had the exact cruel mind and stomach for it... And the fact that he's very appearance was foreboding only added to it. Shade's heart pounded in his chest and unstoppable tremors ripped through his body. No, they couldn't have found him... He fought desperately, wildly, panic surging up. Brom kneed Shade in the gut as he kept trying to struggle.
"Where's the little one hmm?"
Shade felt a deadly coldness crash over him and he gritted his teeth, shoving against Brom with renewed fire.
"You leave him be!" He snarled back at the man. As far as he was concerned he didn't care if they took him, but not Hush! He couldn't let them get Hush! Brom only grunted and shook his head. "No matter. He'll lose his value as he gets older anyway. You on the other hand... you'll always keep yours. At least as long as they usually last in this business." He sneered. "You have no idea how much business you've lost me pretty boy."
Shade writhed. He wasn't going back to that! He couldn't! Brom pulled out a syringe from his pocket, his smirk triumphant and evil. "You'll be coming back with me my exotic specimen."
"No!" He roared, but there was more fear and desperateness to his shout than anything else. He couldn't breathe. He pushed, he shoved, he tried to twist. But then the syringe stabbed into his neck and Shade winced harshly. No! It would drug him and leave him helpless. He couldn't... not this again... No!
This was taking place in the alley that lied just before Kim's apartment building, so she'd pass by the alleyway on her way back home and hopefully behold the terrible scene. Brom had Shade pinned against the wall and his lackey stood idly by, watching with glee.
((It's up to you how much you have Kim hear but I want her to at least hear that last comment, and see the syringe ;) ))

She shifted, not like Shade could into an animal, but in other way similar. Her mind switched gears. With the precision of a trained assassin she threw the knife she always kept on her right at the hand holding the syringe. She was good with a gun, better with a knife. She never knew why, but it just felt natural. No matter how the attacker reacted to the knife, she was upon them in an instant, attacking the one not hold Shade first. Hoping the knife delayed the first one.
She would go low, sweep at the feet of the man just standing there and proceed to make deadly precise strikes to a few key pressure points. Throat, temple, chest. The end result would be her foot crushing his wind pipe, while one hand held an arm, pulling tightly. To make any struggling painful, but also quicken the loos of airflow. In this position she could kill the man, but she wasn’t a killer. The thought to kill hadn’t even entered her mind. No she was going to make the man pass out. Her attention shifting back to the one who had been holding Shade. Soon the man under her foot would pass out. No longer a part of the equation, no longer a threat. I was a bit humorous of a scene. The goldilocks taking down that man, standing triumphant until he would loose consciousness.
((Oh even if she didn’t hear much, the scene will tell her all she needed to know. I hope this is okay))
((True. So wait she didn’t hear the comment then? XD It’ll give her more of an idea though ;) ))
Broom was too intent on jabbing the syringe into Shade’s neck and injecting the contents that he didn’t even see the knife coming until it embedded into his upper arm. Quite comedically, the big man howled with pain and leapt away.
Shade stumbled backward as Brom suddenly released his grip, still trying to get away. But the drug was already in his system, his thoughts were already starting to slow and his vision starting to blur at the edges. But he did look up and stared at the scene, Kim taking down the man.
Indeed Kim would take down the lackey quite easily. They weren’t trained with any sort of skill or technique they just relied on the element of surprise and brute strength in their work. Choking as she crushed his windpipe and writing helplessly under her, the man was soon unconscious.
Meanwhile Brom tore the knife from his flesh with a harsh grunt and glared with wild eyes at the woman, no, girl who took down his accomplice. “What the hell?! Where did you come from?! Oh you are so going to get it girl...” He growled.

((LOL i am snorting XD))
Indeed Shade was mostly leaning on the brick wall, shaking his head as if trying to chase away a daze. Kim would have to take Brom down quickly before Shade collapsed and went down on the hard concrete. Luckily, as said, Brom didn't exactly have any fighting skills. His face only morphed into an ugly expression of rage and brandishing Kim's own knife that he'd just ripped out his arm he charged at her, probably relying more on intimidation and getting her to balk and then grabbing her in his strong arms if anything else. Maybe he could use the remainder of the syringe.

Kim was in luck! Even with the knife a man of his girth moving with that much momentum. She waited till the last moment, side stepped and moved to bring her leg low, towards his knees intending to trip him and hopefully send him headlong into the opposite wall. Intending to follow up by racing towards his back and popping his eardrums with a might blow from her culled hands. It was an effective maneuver, a pressure point, it affected balance and could actually damage the eardrums, both permanently and temporarily. Hopefully before he could slash or stop her.
Kim indeed succeeded in sending Brom into the opposite wall, for he had not expected any manoeuvre from the puny girl before him. The collision knocked him well enough for a loop, and then as she popped his eardrums he grunted in shock and went rigid before teetering onto his side to lie unceremoniously on the ground.
Meanwhile Shade swayed dangerously. He exhaled a breath, then his eyes rolled into the back of his head and he started to collapse...

Shade was out cold and had gone completely limp. Otherwise no way would he have let Kim touch him.
Brom was in a daze as he tried to sit up, then wobbled and almost toppled back over. His lackey was still unconscious nearby. Brom likely had a concussion. He was dizzy and already suddenly had a faint urge to vomit.

There was certainly nothing to stop Kim. And upon hearing her say that she had been attacked by men and one had a knife, the police answered very quickly and raced to the location. If Kim stayed on the phone that long, she’d soon get the info that the men had been taken into custody.
Shade’s head lolled as he remained unconscious.
Meanwhile back in the apartment Hush grew a little nervous at hearing sirens but he told himself that he doubted it had anything to do with him or Shade.
Shade’s head lolled as he remained unconscious.
Meanwhile back in the apartment Hush grew a little nervous at hearing sirens but he told himself that he doubted it had anything to do with him or Shade.

Hush still jumped quite a bit because of course he was expecting a scratching sound of someone inserting and turning a key and unlocking the door not knocking. So he wasn't sure at first but he did recognise Kim's voice, and then after a moment of anguish he hesitantly went and opened the door the tiniest crack to check if it was really them, but then immediately threw it open as he beheld Shade unconscious and on Kim's shoulders. Though he started to back away, casting a wary glance at Kim, as if he thought she'd taken down Shade for some reason and now she was going to take care of him...

Hush blinked when Kim said Shade was attacked. But then as she asked him to go get a towel and water he hesitated a long moment, casting a worried glance at Shade before he finally hurried off. He grabbed a towel from the bathroom and then filled a bowl with water at the kitchen sink. Though when he brought them over to where Kim had put Shade onto the couch he hesitated, watching Kim warily, and his expression revealed the question he just wouldn’t speak. What are you doing to him? Hush was still worried she was doing something bad, even if he was a little startled when he noticed the tears on Kim’s face. But maybe she felt guilty for whatever it was she was doing, didn’t mean it was good...

she could hardly make the Trimble in her hands stop. “I’m sorry to start you like that, Hush...” Maybe for the first time she took and how apprehensive he was, but she was in mission mode now. “I should have some bandages in the bathroom would you mind checking to see if he’s hurt anywhere? I... I think it would be best for another boy to check. As I know is they were in an alleyway with two big guys and a syringe I don’t think he got hurt but I just don’t know...” she probably should’ve been telling him all of this but she didn’t know what else to do and he didn’t talk so she was probably going to over talk to compensate also because of her anxiety of this whole moment now. She kept questioning whether she should take him to emergency room or not feeling both that she should and shouldn’t simultaneously.
Hush did seem apprehensive giving her the towel and water but he didn’t pull it back from her. He did seem to tense though as she started to touch Shade and he watched like a hawk but all she did was wipe down his face with the towel and then put it over his forehead. Then she asked him to get the bandages and he hesitated to move, but then she explained what happened and Hush’s eyes stretched wide, definitely some form of recognition or on the lines of that. His eyes darted as he tried to think how to ask her what he wanted. Unfortunately talking just wasn’t an option to him, not yet at least. Instead he made sure he had her attention and then made a motion with his hand like someone indeed injecting a syringe, and then he gestured to it with his other hand and raised his brows questioningly. As if asking about the syringe, confirming about it. He was pretty much just asking, A syringe?

“I used to be a police officer.” She wasn’t sure what he would think of that, But she continued. “Not anymore, but I know how to fight. I took down the first guy on surprise and managed to outsmart the other one. I was lucky, but the police got them now. So they’re not coming back.” She nodded as if reminding herself of that more than hush. “I’m guessing it’s a sedative Hopefully it doesn’t last too long. I don’t think they were able to get it all in... i’m just concerned they might have hurt him and…“ She shifted somewhat awkwardly. “If he’s hurt there’s really only one way to check so… I need you to check him.” Best to change plans.
“So... I’ll go gather the things in the bathroom, and when you’re ready and have checked him, you can look for any injuries or bruises or anything that might be hurt... and once he’s covered… You can knock on the door and I’ll come out.“ Her face went Crimson just at the thought this was beyond awkward and she wondered if she was Making things much worse talking as much as she was. She couldn’t seem to shut up now though. “I’m sorry I didn’t get to him sooner…” She really needed to stop talking now. So unless he gestured or did something to try and stop her she would move towards the bathroom mostly just trying to get away from very awkward situation.
It was definitely unfortunate Shade didn’t know sign language, for it wasn’t like his decision not to speak had been planned. Hush’s eyes stretched wide with realisation and horror when Kim relayed the ‘exotic specimen’ comment. He then tilted his head as Kim explained about being a police officer and his eyes widened again when she said she’d taken down the men and they had been arrested. He nodded when she said it was a sedative but then started waving his hands in the negative. Hush did indeed try to stop her when she started to move to the bathroom, pressing his hands against her stomach to stop her though he backed off after a moment, not seeming to like the contact. He was shaking his head, then he started to look about. He then made a motion where he flattened one hand out and hovered the other above it in a signal like he was pretending to write something, trying to communicate he wanted something to write with. He would write things down occasionally instead of talking. He then dashed off to the kitchen bench trying to look for a notepad and pen because surely Kim had something he could use to write. Or if she didn’t, perhaps he could use a feature on her phone...?

Hush immediately stopped as she said she had nothing to write on but he could use her phone. Indeed it was probably good to let him come to her he scurried to her but hesitated as he got close but then hesitantly took the phone. Unfortunately he wasn’t too used to phones but of course he’d used one he was just a little slower at typing then he might have been at writing. He only wrote passages that were a few words each, with gaps in between to show vaguely that he was talking about something separate.
When he passed Kim back her phone, it would read the following.
Syringe meant to put him to sleep.
Not hurt. They don’t want to mark him. Sleep only.
Can’t go back. Can never go back. Can’t let them take him.
Hush has started trembling a little and he’d wrapped his arms around himself. He looked so scared.

There was an instinct that made her just want to try to Comfort him. Though of the way he was acting she was sure that was a bad idea. “Is there anything I can do for him? Do you know anything about the people that do this but maybe I can tell the police since I’ve already talk to them and they don’t know about you too I can give them whatever information you have and maybe we can stop those people. Make sure they never do this to someone or come after you again.“ She spoke gently but passionately holding out her phone with a slightly shaky hand, not because she was afraid of him up because of her own emotions.
Her internal sense of right and wrong and justice. Her desire to make the people that could do this to someone pay. Just like the people who are taking her parents from her.
Indeed Hush tensed and took a step back to match the step she took towards him, but other than that he wasn’t too bad, he only seemed somewhat wary of her now, not terrified like he had been. Hush lifted his head as she said they had been arrested. He looked both glad and, also a little concerned. Worried. Hesitantly he took the phone as she offered it again, looking up at her at her questions but he just shook his head, then typed only one word into her phone before giving it back to her.
Wait.
He inclined his head to Shade. He meant wait for Shade to wait. Wait to do anything. He then looked down and curled in his shoulders as if apologising he couldn’t offer more, didn’t want to. All that was left to do was wait until Shade woke and then see if he wanted to take further action.

Hush looked a little doubtful about being safe but he gave a hesitant little nod. Then he shook his head in answer to her question of if she could do anything for him. Unfortunately he and Shade has grown very good at waiting so Kim might have some difficulty. Hush edged past her and returned to Shade, keeping a watch over him.
((We’ll say about an hour passes and Shade will wake ;) ))
((We’ll say about an hour passes and Shade will wake ;) ))

After the slowest hour probably of her life she heard something and looked up.
Shade finally grunted and stirred.
Hush jumped up from where he’d been kneeling in front of Shade’s face and backed up and edged around the couch, knowing Shade wouldn’t want to see someone as soon as he woke. Shade blinked his eyes open blearily, lifted his head and shook it almost like a dog. The drug had left him groggy. He looked up at the ceiling but then his eyes widened and then he was moving, flailing, shouting in shock and fear. He fell off the couch and into the floor before trying to scrabble upright but he kept wobbling or swaying unsteadily because of the lingering effects of the drug.
Hush stiffened and looked a little anxious as well and he’d frozen for a moment. It was up to Kim to try and restore order and some semblance of calm.

Shade gasped and looked up, at first he flinched but then he did recognise Kim. He was motionless for a moment, chest heaving, then he looked around wildly. “Hush? Where’s Hush?” That seemed to be the only thing he cared about right now. Hush quickly scurried around from the couch and Shade caught sight of him and immediately loosed a shaky breath. He lunged forward and hugged the younger tightly. “Oh you’re okay you’re okay...” Shade breathed, obviously to himself more than Hush. “Oh thank god you’re okay...” He pulled back to look at Hush for a moment. “I thought they had maybe gotten you first buddy...” he breathed and then shuddered and hugged Hush tighter. Hush seemed to shudder as well and buried his head against Shade as he tightened his grip, shaking slightly.

She needed to do something, I didn’t do good for her to do on her thoughts much she needed to focus on something and stay busy. “I’ll make some food, I’m sure you need to eat something to get that stuff out of your system.” She didn’t even know if she needed to make the excuse to leave but she did just in case. She could her to the kitchen and just focus on making food, that would help. Now despite how tired she had been from her work day she would’ve gladly gone back, anything to keep her self busy. She could not let her self start thinking about all those stupid thoughts memories and emotions. I would just make her be weak and vulnerable. Just like how she had been the day that she went and hid in the closet. No she wasn’t going to be embarrassed like that again! No way! She just needed to distract yourself from stupid thoughts like this.
Shade straightened upon hearing Kim’s voice, almost forgetting she was there in that moment. After a second he cleared his throat. “Uh, right.” Indeed he swayed a bit when he suddenly released Hush and he realised he might have been leaning on the kid a little more than he’d meant to. He stumbled to the couch and Hush helped him along. Shade smiled at him. “Thanks buddy.” He shook his head and pressed a hand to his forehead, trying to shove away the grogginess. He glanced around warily, as if still wanting to check if he was really safe. He then looked in Kim’s direction as frowned. “Wait did you...” he paused and frowned deeply as he struggled to remember, then... “Kim did you... did you help me...? Those... men...?”

Kim said it is if it was just the simple matter no big deal. She finish washing her hands and move to pull out dishes not thinking to dry them because she was feeling somewhat shaky. “You see in America are used to be a... police officer... I trained a lot on how to fight especially people bigger than me since people like to target girls they think her week.“ She chuckled awkwardly and continued working, there were other reason she chose such a life because she chose not to be a victim anymore. So she had never been a true victim she had been spared the worst, mostly because she was good at running and hiding. And then when she was found she fought screamed, clawed, shouted and no one thought she was worth the trouble of whatever they planned to do more than likely she would draw blood or take an eye.
She really could act like a wild creature, a wolf as many of them joked. Perhaps that begin her fascination with the creatures they were pack animals, loyal clever. However the loan was always perished when they didn’t find a pack, that was the part she hated. It was nice to have people but she never saw her self ever having She really could act like a wild creature, a wolf as many of them joked. Perhaps that begin her fascination with the creatures they were pack animals, loyal clever. However the loan was always perished when they didn’t find a pack, that was the part she hated. It was nice to have people but she never saw herself ever having ‘pack’. No, not her.
Shade widened his eyes as he listened, though he visibly stiffened at the word ‘exotic’ but he shoved it away for now as he just stared at her. “You... you did...?” He just sounded more shocked than anything. How had she taken down Brom...? He then listened as she explained how she’d used to be a police officer. He tilted his head at her a little confusedly. “Really? You used to be a police officer?” He then just sniffed in amusement. “Even with what you said to me about the police the day we met?” He said lightly. Though he went more solemn as she continued and then he pushed himself up and made his way over to her maybe a little unsteadily as if he was somewhat drunk. He lent on the bench near her and looked right at her, in the eye if she let him. “Thank you... for that.” He murmured. It should communicate everything, what kind of fate he would have been dragged back to had those men succeeded... Not that she would know the details, but she would realise the nature...

Her eyes watered and she offered a strange smile as she still thought a large amount of emotions from what she had been thinking earlier to now. “I’m just glad you’re OK.“ She exhaled as she spoke letting a little emotion out primarily relief. “And they’re going to jail, and if there’s anything you can tell me I can help put away more of people like them. I need you to. Not right now, but anything you can tell me because they knew who called the police on them when they call me I will testify and make sure they get put away for life but I need the ammunition.”
Maybe the cop was coming through again. Justice, doing what was right. Strong desire to make those who make others suffer themselves suffer. She was the type of person who craved revenge she was the type of person who craved an end to cruelty. It was then the Trimble in her hand made the fork she had clatter against one of the plates awkwardly. She tried to ignore it as if it never happened continuing to work to make the meal. She dealt with her emotions by not dealing with her emotions. And it helped her to survive, crying didn’t get her any sympathy never had, but turning that emotion into strength, and to anger into a weapon. That’s What worked!
Shade only sniffed lightly at her response. Honestly he wasn’t sure what to do or say either now. Though he went rigid as she mentioned the men and them going to jail. “Wait you... you said they were arrested?” He asked urgently. “Are you sure? Wait so they’re in custody? Can you get permission to make phone calls while in custody?! You can’t right?!”

Shade looked away and released a harsh breath. He grimaced and shook his head. “It’s not lawyers I’m worried about though he will definitely have enough money to pay the best ones in the business. He runs a whole organisation Kim. And if you take him down they’re going to come after you.” He said, eyes wide with worry. Though then he frowned deeply, and he didn’t quite look at her he was looking at the floor in thought. “We need to take them all down.” He flicked his eyes back up at her. “What were you going to testify against them for?”
