Deva (deva_reads) | 3 comments I read this book between 1 and 5 years ago, and feel the book was relatively recently released when I read it. The book was either YA or Fantasy (possibly YA Fantasy), with a female protagonist set in a cold, wintery environment. It was definitely not contemporary and took place somewhere in Europe/written with Europe in mind.

This is the only thing I can remember: There is a fleeting scene in the book in which the protagonist is trapped in a cabin/home/building with at least one other individual (I think a child or early teen) whilst the building is set on fire. At some point, the protagonist touches the child (I think on the arm?) and the child revives/comes back to life.

My gut thinks that this book is Uprooted by Naomi Novik, but I cannot place this scene anywhere. Help please!

Gillian Wiseman (gillianwiseman) | 241 comments I agree that overall it sounds very like Naomi Novick's Spinning SilverSpinning Silver. But I don't recall the scene of a child coming back to life.

Deva (deva_reads) | 3 comments A child may not have literally returned to life, but I swear it was something like that. Definitely a fire where the protagonist was trapped, though. There’s a conversation with a kid after.

Jamie Dacyczyn (readsintrees) | 297 comments If your gut is saying Uprooted, look also at The Bear and the Nightingale The Bear and the Nightingale (Winternight Trilogy, #1) by Katherine Arden or its sequel The Girl in the Tower. Similar release time period, similar "feel" to the story, set in winter, and there are definitely scenes where buildings are on fire.

Hey Jamie. I was thinking it might be one of these too. I'm reading Winter of the Witch right now, and it feels like a scene Vasya was in... Scouring summaries to see if I can pinpoint the scene.

Deva ~~
Let us know if you have found your book. We like to know for sure. If it is yea, we mark the thread as solved and we shelve the book. If it is not your book, we continue to look.

also ~~
You can "bump" your thread every month or so. This pushes your thread back to the top of the folder instead of languishing here on page 173 where fewer eyes will see it. Get back in the game! Bump!
You can do this by typing a new comment at the end of the thread, or even by typing the word "bump."
And keep bumping. It has taken several years for some books to be found. I know this from personal experience. So keep bumping faithfully!
Good luck!
