Seeking a heavy line edit

Bill Davis | 1 comments I ran across this group in my search for an editor and thought I would give goodreads a try. I'm going to try to keep it fairly short but please read entire posting before making an inquiry.

I've rewritten this manuscript a number of times to get it to where it is today and in the process have shaved off about 1/5 of the original word count. It is a fictional thriller with 82,029 words as it sits.

I am seeking an editor who can perform a heavy line edit. When I say a heavy line edit, I mean a true line by line edit of the manuscript improving readability, fixing dialogue, eliminating repetition, rewriting poor sentence structures, etc. I know some editors are afraid to touch an authors' words but I want someone who isn't afraid as this will be my debut novel and I want it to be the absolute best it can be. I want parts rewritten and corrected to the point of when the line edit is done, I want to be able to read a copy with all changes performed to see the difference.

Of course this will involve some major rewriting in areas as well as an investment of time but for that reason, I have a fairly open budget. Unlike alot of posts I see on here, I respect the effort and time that editors put in and being that I am asking for such an edit, I do not want the cheapest editor I can find. I want someone who is willing to invest the time and commitment into making my manuscript the absolute best it can be.

With that being said, I would like communication throughout our time working together. I would be very eager to get comments, questions, etc. throughout to assist you in keeping the voice/tone that I am looking for. Again, at the very end, I would like a copy of ALL of your rewrites completed that I could read. Its not to say that I am going to run it to production just like that without making any changes but I feel this is the most efficient manner for me at this very time in realizing my dream. I feel that the great majority of the hard work is done as every rewrite I did myself involved changing the structure to get it to where it is today.

If this is a project that you are interested in, please reply below with your website or contact info. If its not on your website, I also would like an idea of what kind of price I am looking at for 82k for this level of edit and what kind of turn around time I am looking at. Lastly, preference will be given to those who could start as early as February (now would be even better.) Again, I want someone who is going to truly dedicate themselves to this project, not just someone who is going to skimp through a line edit. I really would like to build a working relationship as this will be my debut novel but I have others already planned out that I will begin to work on once I get this one going.

Ruth Feiertag | 116 comments Bill,

Congratulations on your accomplishment! I admire your commitment not only to finishing your book but to working through revisions.

Just a note on terminology to help you get the edit you want: you're asking for a heavy developmental edit, not a line edit. Developmental editing is what I do best. My rates, as well as links to other information about me, are here: http://www.penknife-editing.net/rates-2. I'd be interested to know more about your book and would do a sample edit of a thousand words or so to give you a sense about whether we would work well together and so that I can give you an estimate of how many hours I think the edit would take.

I am sure you will get quite a number of responses and that one of us will be a good match for you and your novel.

I offer editing services for authors.
Kindly go through my website

Since your book requires a rewrite and it is a thriller, I would like to do a sample edit
The time taken would depend on the work needed
Good luck

Clare | 10 comments Good Afternoon Bill,

First off, CONGRATULATIONS!!! Writing your first novel is a huge undertaking. I am sure you are overwhelmed with pride.

I agree with Ruth. You are looking for a structural edit rather than a line edit. This is my favourite part of the editing process.

I would love to put you into contact with an author I am working with at the minute to see how I work with him; it sounds like what you are looking for. Although I have never met my author in person, I feel that we have built such a strong connection over his work, and a strong team has evolved from working on his writing together.

If you would like to chat privately about cost and expectations, please email me at cflockton@gmail.com

I look forward to hearing from you.

Morgan Lee | 38 comments Hey Bill!

https://morgyleewantread.wixsite.com/...

Check it out if you have not found an editor yet. You can also email me at morgan.lee1920@hotmail.com

Free 5 page sample edit so you can get a feel for how I edit. An 82k manuscript would cost about 800 but I am running a New Year Special of 30% off until January 31st.

Best,

Morgan

Jerry Shaw | 55 comments I have edited thrillers that have required extensive rewriting. Without seeing the manuscript, the fee would range from $1,100 to $1,500, depending. It might fall into developmental editing. I am always open to negotiation and can provide a sample edit.
