Sorry for the misunderstanding, Susan is absolutely right, Cora had posted in the August discussion thread and never picked before, so I chose her as a shelf-picker instead. She's already decided on a shelf and will post her pick here soon.

Yay! Thanks for taking care of that, Marina. I'm anxious to see what you've chosen, Cora.

Hi everyone! Thanks for giving me the opportunity to be the Shelf Picker for October. The shelf I picked is Detective - https://www.goodreads.com/genres/dete....
Thank you Cora! How exciting that I may choose the shelf for next month! I have always loved witches so for November I'd like to choose the shelf Witches
Ohhhh! I see a lot on my TBR on the first five pages of that list. I shall be working on the TBR with both the monthly shelf AND Trim That TBR! Nice!

Thanks Lusie!
Kirss - Please let me know as soon as possible what our shelf will be for December. And if you have any questions, be sure to let me know!

Just FYI - I will be taking over the administration of the monthly shelf picker threads as of December 2016 so Tien can concentrate on all of the great games and challenges that we have going on.
Kirss picked 1 as the shelf for December. (Yes there is such a shelf!) Not sure what the reference is, but there are plenty of books, so it should be fun.

the shelf = Popular 1 books
the shelf = Popular 1 books
hmm, I wonder what the reasoning is behind naming a shelf, "1"?!
I understand if it's just first in a series but there are stand alones and other serial too (eg. HP #7, etc) ???

Lusie wrote: "maybe #1 best seller?"Coralie wrote: "I suspect different people shelve it that way for a variety of reasons."
I think that Coralie is correct, and probably some do it for #1 best seller. I suspect some do it for the first of a series and probably for other reasons, who knows what.
In my opinion, the 1 doesn't symbolize anything. Instead, you can choose any book that you would shelf as 1. The most popular meaning is surely first in a series, but it can also be a best-seller. Maybe this book is written about the science of numerology. Maybe this is the first sci-fi book you'll read. Maybe this is the first pick-a-shelf challenge you'll take. Maybe it is the first book you've reviewed. Maybe it's a book you'll rate 1 star. It is up to you! :)The shelf-picker for January is Marina, congrats! :)
Thanks, Kirss. However, I was the shelf-picker just 3 months ago, so I sent Kirss a private message to ask her to try and choose someone who picked the monthly shelf a long time ago or who has never picked one before. I also asked her to write to one of the mods in case she needs any clarification.

Sorry Marina. I had sent her the list, but things got a bit mucked up. I will send her a PM also.

Kirss,
It's also possible to access the shelf list as the 5th topic under "Pick A Shelf:Monthly" on the group's main page. In the first message, there's a link to a Google Doc.

I've notified the admin and the new shelf-picker now, hope it's all okay. I manage groups myself in different sites and am very comfortable with this, but I hadn't really read through all the rules of this group yet. :)
So Kirss has picked CassieV as the shelf picker for the month of January. She has sent her a message, so I will let you all know her choice as soon as she gets in touch with me.
Of course, if she posts here, you all may know before me, lol.

Hi all! Sorry to keep you all in suspense, I didn't realize this thread was here!January makes me think of new goals and getting things done (I'm so productive in January, lol!) so I picked Bucket List. Hope you all like it :).

I like it, because a group read I'll be starting is on it, although I'd have to read it too fast! But what I saw is very promising, although I've read a lot of the ones on the first page.
Nice pick, Cassie! There are several books on this shelf already on my TBR, but it's got something for just about everyone.
Would you believe that there are only three books on the first page of that shelf that I haven't read?
I love the pick, Cassie. Thanks so much for being our shelf picker.
Since we have the shelf, I am going to go ahead and start the thread for our reading lists so everyone can plan.

Wow, that's amazing, Coralie! Would one of them be War and Peace?
You made me count now... I've got 8 to-read and 1 DNF (War & Peace) ;p

No. I have read War and Peace. They are Ulysses, The Lord of the Rings (although I have read The Fellowship of the Ring) and The Perks Of Being A Wallflower.
Yay, glad it's one where people are finding options! Coralie- I'm impressed you've read so many of them from the first page! I think I've read about half, so I have a bit more to go.
At least if you dig through a bit, it does have more than just classics if someone doesn't feel up to one of those in January:).
Awesome list...literally every book on the first page I've either read or it's on my To Be Read list.
Great shelf, with loads of choices (so many of them in my tbr!). And the added value of being able to check what other goodreaders place on their bucket-lists... :)
Woohoo Lusie! It's probably the only time I'll be able to say that I'm ahead of you. I've read 12 and when I finish Anna Karenina this month, it'll be 13. That's awesome Charity.

I just sent you a PM with instructions on picking the next Shelf Picker. Let me know if you have any questions.

Will do!
Okay I believe I checked everything I needed to for picker qualifications ;). For February, I've chosen Elvenn to be shelf picker. Looking forward to seeing what you choose, Elvenn!
Hi all and thanks for the opportunity! After much browsing through the shelves, I’ve finally decided on one that seemed especially interesting and with a wide variety of books: Magical Realism.
I hope everyone finds great February reads inside. :)
Great shelf, Elvenn!
For anyone who's totally new to the genre, I have almost 40 on my Magical Realism shelf, ranging from 2 stars to 5 stars. I've reviewed most of them. Everyone is welcome to explore that for ideas as well as the main shelf.
