hmm, I wonder what the reasoning is behind naming a shelf, "1"?!

I understand if it's just first in a series but there are stand alones and other serial too (eg. HP #7, etc) ???

I think that Coralie is correct, and probably some do it for #1 best seller. I suspect some do it for the first of a series and probably for other reasons, who knows what.

In my opinion, the 1 doesn't symbolize anything. Instead, you can choose any book that you would shelf as 1. The most popular meaning is surely first in a series, but it can also be a best-seller. Maybe this book is written about the science of numerology. Maybe this is the first sci-fi book you'll read. Maybe this is the first pick-a-shelf challenge you'll take. Maybe it is the first book you've reviewed. Maybe it's a book you'll rate 1 star. It is up to you! :)
