Shelf Picker

Herdy, Geeky, or Genius Heroes and Heroines"
I think those are listopia lists? There is a shelf for geek if you wanted that instead...

Thanks, Rora, that works well! So...let's use the link that Rora posted for December. Now to find an image...

I'm not suggesting we change from what Bea's chosen (I could be happy just on the first page). But, for future shelf pickers ... Isn't there a limit on the number of books that a shelf had to have to be chosen? If so, can you remind us all what it is?I suspect it's either 1,000 or 10,000. But there's a huge difference between those.

Susan, see message 1204. That is the correct shelf for December. I have corrected my other two posts to reflect this.

I know, Bea. But I don't think that answers my question. I'm not questioning the December shelf. I'm asking about the general ruling for when we're choosing shelves -- I think there's a number of books on the shelf we're supposed to see as a minimum, and I'm wanting to be reminded what it is.
Tien is probably the best person to answer my question, when she gets a chance.

Susan, if you look at message 1 on "Pick-a-Shelf ... How to" it states (I copied/pasted so it should be exact):
"If you've checked the link above, you'll notice that there are pages & pages of top shelves. So we're going to limit our top shelves choices to only those shelves which have at least 1,000 books on them"

Thanks, Lynn. The "1000" is what I couldn't remember. And I didn't think to look above at message 1. Sorry.

yup, sorry, just checked and it was only link to view but I've just changed it to link to edit. Thanks!
I have just updated the list too :)

Although the audiobook shelf sounds fine to me, I hope you don't require it be "read" in audio. It's a very irritating format for me. Yes, I've "read" a couple of audiobooks, but it's just way too slow for me compared to actual reading with my eyes and makes me space-out (because of the slowness) so I don't hear it anyway. If you do definitely want it that way, though, I will at least try one short one just to honor the attempt.

The audio book player I use let's you speed up the reading rate that way fast readers don't get bored. I also try to multi task like do dishes, fold laundry, clean, grocery shop, and/or drive while listening.
Hi Lyndi, is this shelf (audiobook) okay?
I don't want to limit the 'reading' to audiobooks either...
I always have an audiobook ready on my phone in case I have time to myself (ie. driving with only myself in the car, etc) and usually I'd set my phone to play about 15 mins before I sleep... like LynnB I usually find myself spacing out / falling asleep so missing a bit of the audiobook lol

I think that could be suggested but not required. I love audiobooks but I know they're not for everybody.

Yes that's prefect thanks!

A narrator can make or break the experience.

I'm very picky with accents as well. In general I don't find Aussie accents sexy like a lot of people so I struggle with them as well but I liked The Rosie Project. It was too hilarious.

Oh oops, I have sent Lindy PM last week though it doesn't seem that she's been online since I sent that msg. Thanks for sending the reminder, Lyn. Hopefully she'll be online soon. We'll give her til this weekend then we may have a poll if she hasn't responded.
Apologies all but we've not heard from Lindy at all. So here's the poll
will close in approx. 48 hours, I think... If I did it right...

heya, Matt has chosen Ebony as Shelf Picker for March and I've PM-ed her a few days ago & requested that she let us know her picked Shelf early next week. Hopefully, she'll be around soon as I've not receive any response from her.

Ooh! Very interesting shelf! I know what I'm reading!

Nice choice -- it's an intriguing shelf to choose. I've only read a few on it so far but see some I'd like to read.
FYI I've messaged Ebony for April and am just waiting to hear back from her... hopefully, the next few days.

nope, she hasn't come back to me... I'm just about to set up a poll in case we need it.

I wouldn't mind updating it, but I don't seem able to edit it. Maybe the settings aren't really as you intended?
