Thanks for being on the ball, Melissa!
And great choice, my f2f bookclub's book is right here so I really won't have to look further ;)

And, since I am stuck at home today with a sick kiddie, I have had a look and chosen " From the Library" in honour of the fact that we have just renewed our library cards after 2.5 years. Turns out kiddie had $12.40 in fines, which is why we stopped going ....

Yay, Amanda!
thanks for being so prompt.
We've stopped going to the library for a while now too -lol, we've probably got heaps of fine on our cards!

Of course, we can't own ALL the books, so I guess there is still a place for the library in our lives ;)

It's interesting, there is one particular sale we go to which is great for the grown ups, but there is never anything for our daughter, and yet at all the other sales she walks away with about 20 books!
Next sale is just over a week away, and we are going to get there early. Hoping to pick up more books in the various series she collects, and i'll just pick up whatever looks interesting or is on my "shopping" list.

I do enjoy being at my library and I go there to just sit for a few hours and read/listen/watch stuff on my tablet. They have a cheap coffee machine which I am sure they put there to make you stay longer ;)
There is something about being surrounded by books & having a quite place to just sit.
They do have a book shop open on Saturday mornings with books for $1-2 each. But I have far too many books. That is why I borrow.
My new rule is unless I really, really want to own it - I don't buy it.
This is working out for me because now the books I am buying all seem to follow themes/genres that are my favourites.

We used to go for story time with 40 odd kids and parents all squashed into 1/3 of a portable!
The library sales we visit are between 1-4 times a year only, depending on the library. Some of them are run by local scout groups or other community group, rather than friends of the library. We always try to get there early, but never seem to quite manage to get there first, but normally still manage to walk away with 30 or more books between us.
I am hoping that by having a big enough library at home it will encourage my daughter to read wider than I did growing up.

That is awesome, Amanda. I am trying to slowly build a 'childrens library' at home for my boys (my first is 4 and second one due in a few months). I've a feeling though they probably won't read half of MY collection (EVER) so that's why I'm collecting a separate boyish type of books ;p

I have started a challenge group for reading through the 20th century ( more active on FB than GR ), and am working up to setting up a world reading challenge. But it's all a lot of work! Don't know how you moderators do it! :)

I just want a as wide-ranging as I could possibly make it - really whatever I thought would be a good read so still kinda bias in a way :)
That is a pretty big challenge, Amanda, that's 100 books. There are a few world reading challenge though on the foremost of my mind was probably the Around the World in 80 Days. Good luck! Let us know your links, in case, others would love to join :)

I'll let you know once I decide how to run the World lit book. I am signed up to Around the World, but I haven't read anything with them yet. Maybe I can now I have my library card :)

No apologies needed...I just can't wait to start browsing...almost as fun as reading the books themselves.
hey, Charity - not annoying at all ;p
If that person hasn't responded by this weekend, I'll post a poll of shelves for September (as per the rules) :)

Maybe it would be wise to post the person's name in this thread. I remember sending someone a PM once and they said they didn't get it.
I believe Amanda said it's to be Marie
I've just checked Marie's profile and it seems that she hasn't been online since last weekend so we may have to wait til the weekend before she logs on again.

does this work?

ack! my apologies... I have thought of it but... (making excuses for myself...)
hubby managed to break his collarbone the weekend before last, riding his bicycle. Got quite a bit of a scrape too! So, since he can't really do anything one handed plus it's quite a bit painful (and you can't even put it in a cast!); it just adds another person I had to look after and took away any assistance he could've provided with the bub!
Bit of a drastic measure to get out of changing nappies, methinks!
Anyways, I've PM-ed Gemma and hope she'll respond soon. Sorry, guys!

Hope Your hubby recovers quickly, they do amazing things to get out of helping don't they? Mine fell down the stairs to avoid hanging out the washing ;)

Thanks, Gemma, if everyone has had a chance previously... then maybe one who did it the earliest (some time last year or even prior to that?). It's okay to have another turn (just try to space it out a bit :)

just to clarify...
a car pulled out in front of him as he was going quite fast down the hill (it was his right of way) so he braked pretty hard but back tyre popped and he lost control so fell off... hence, the injury :p
That car didn't stop to render assistance either! Not even to query if he's okay! gggrrr...

Tien, it sounds like he was very lucky to ONLY break a collar bone. Thoughts and prayers for his quick recovery.
I was just reviewing our Shelf Picker threads and found that the Google doc has not been updated since earlier this year. Not sure who does this, but, if it was Tien, it is understandable.
My last time was April of 2013, if that helps. I don't know whether there are people who last did it earlier than that.
You're definitely eligible, Bea. You submitted a review in October. Unless someone steps forward today whose last time was earlier than Bea, I say we give it to Bea this time.

thanks, Bea!
thanks, Bea!
sorry about the google doc.
Um, I thought I might've set the doc for anyone to update? If anyone's up to it... let me know if it isn't. Thanks :)
I'm agreeable for Bea to pick for Dec too :)

Since I will be looking at it again, I will try the update. Let you know later.

Tien, I was not able to update the list. Might be that I just don't know my way around working with Google docs. However, here is the list that needs to be added:

May 2014 - Short Story Collection - Nadine
June 2014 - Beach Reads - Debi
July 2014 - Alternative History -- Melissa
August 2014 - From the Library - Amanda
September 2014 - American Literature - Marie

November 2014 - Life Changers - Gemma
and (Ta Da!) December 2014 - Geeks - Bea
Here's the link to the list:

ETA: I have corrected the link to match the one in message 1204.

The previous link for Geeks that I posted only has 177 choices. Perhaps this list would be better as it contains 619. Thanks to Rora for helping with an appropriate link.
