Hey Luann, we are just OCD about this group. Can't wait to get started on the next shelf. Congrats photojim!!
Arlene - I really enjoyed the Asia shelf. Thanks for picking it.

Arlene- I loved the shelf this month, even though I only got to one book :(
I have several more books that fit on the shelf that I have just gotten, but most likely won't finish in time. I loved that it offered so many different options!

Thanks, Arlene! I'm still in the middle of my second Asian book for this month, and plan to finish before Monday.

Thanks for the honor.

I look forward to seeing everyone's Humor books.

Humor is such a great choice Jim, and here I thought you were going to choose Harlequins,(Just kidding, lol) :)

I just got the first 7 Sookie Stackhouse books, so I am about to start MY Sookie Stackhouse addiction.
Thanks Mel, that's what I hear. I have been on the wait list for the first one at the library for about 4 months, then my sister gave me the first 7 for my birthday.

I really enjoyed the Asian reads. I am finishing "The Good Earth" right now. What an amazing book.
Can't wait to get started on humor. I might read "A Christmas Story" to combine Christmas AND humor! Great pick Photojim.

I'd favor knowing the new picker before the 20th, rather than after the 20th, as once the new picker is announced, they may want to think about the new genre for a day.
Jim, do you know when you plan to select the next picker? I'm not saying I think it needs to be done right away, it's just something that can easily be forgotten with the abundance of seasonal gatherings a lot of folks have.

I am so excited!!
So guys - I thought about this all night, it's actually harder to "pick-a-shelf" than I thought. After much thought, I have decided on "mystery-thriller", since I am in the mood to cozy up to a good mystery in front of the fire in January. It is slightly different than "mystery" itself, and that was a long time ago, anyway.
I will post the threads.

Arlene - I love the line about cereal boxes. I always say that I will read anything once. In another group, we were talking about how you pick what to read, like by reviews, the hype, etc. and I mentioned that I have several ways I decide whether to put a book on my TBR. So--one of the other members tried to put me down, and sarcastically said, "So -- if it has pages you will read it." (this person is somewhat of a book snob) and I said, "Thanks for my new motto!"

Years ago when I started reading The Lord of the Rings I was offended to find the next book in the series on the Sci-Fi shelf, I thought Sci-Fi wasn't fit to read (I hadn't read any at that time) Then I discovered that the shelf was really Fantasy/Sci-Fi so that made it okay. Later, when I was in the Peace Corps and starved for books, I read The Martian Chronicles and Ray Bradbury. Now Anne McCaffrey is one of my favorite authors and I really like Carl Sagan. I did like The Stand but probably won't read any other Stephen King or Anne Rice. I guess that makes me somewhat of a "book snob" but, hey, I know what I like.

Good choice too...I have Rumpole, Mrs. Jefferies, and Sherlock Holmes to look forward to. OOh, and maybe the "Maltese Falcon"
*drumroll*
Using a real scientific method (a random pick out of a bowl) I have determined that the shelfpicker for February is --- SUNFLOWER-----.
Congrats Sunflower, and happy picking.
Luann - thanks for the update.
