Hmm .... I'd like to know, too. I've read some of the books on that appear on that shelf and have no clue how they would fit that title.

And congrats on being picked Shelf-picker! Can't wait to see what you pick.

message 902: by Karen (new)

Karen (karenofthebookworm) Congrats Susan.

Pebbles? Seems like an odd way to label books.

D.G. | 1370 comments Well, now I've heard it all. What the hell does that mean?

I'm sure HP is probably there!

message 905: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 1370 comments All those books have only 1 person shelving them as such and the person doesn't seem to be active so it might be an old thing that was deleted and it's still lingering.

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9032 comments Mod
I think DG is right - it says no user found when I clicked on to see who's shelf it is.

Some of my shelves probably wouldn't make sense to peope either - 'moving-mountains'? It'll make sense to you guys but not other people ;p

message 907: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments I found someone's name - Pam I think it was

message 908: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9032 comments Mod
Maybe Pebbles is her nick... so it could've been books she owns?

message 909: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments maybe - but others have it shelved that way, so who knows - maybe it was a reading group or something

message 910: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9032 comments Mod
Oh yes, that's also possible... or part of a game widget thing! It could've been anything!

Susan | 3754 comments Mod
A former reading group or challenge game sort of makes sense to me. But 17,514 books on it -- that's a lot. Thanks for everyone's ideas. That will not be my choice, in any case.

Tien gave me lots of warning, which has been both a blessing and a curse. I actually read all the names on the first 10 pages of "Top Shelves" (hence my discovery of "Pebbles"). And we've had great shelf choices lately, so I'm feeling a bit intimidated. I want to pick something good, but also different.

For example, I'd love to do cyberpunk sometime, but right now it seems too soon after steampunk for that. I also ruled out magical realism because someone just mentioned having trouble with that. And I almost chose African-American since it'll be for February. But it just didn't really speak to me for this month, so I ruled that out. Now I have it down to a tough choice among 3 -- none are really similar to any we've ever done, and they would all challenge me personally to find something new. But I'm still debating what would be the best challenge for the group.

Not to be teasing you all or anything ... Oh, yeah, sure I am. :)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments ugh, susan - that is just painful!

OK. One of my top three choices, but in the end NOT chosen, is debut. Now it's down to two. Stay tuned ...

Karen (karenofthebookworm) Susan that is cruel, you are such a tease. :-)

@Tien: No, I'm usually not such a tease. Just couldn't resist in this case, though. On what day would you like me to actually announce my choice?

@ everyone: the last shelf I almost chose was 1st in series. But in the end, I decided to go with a content-based shelf.

message 919: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 1370 comments OMG, Susan! You're terrible!

Both of those are great shelves though. I wouldn't be surprised if I don't see them soon!

On Friday, please, Susan... Then we'll have the weekend to ooh & aahs over our choices :)

Can't wait for this weekend - long weekend for us (Australia Day) woo hoo! Still a long week to live through :p

Ok , someone help me with time zones here. If I want to hit Friday in Australia, I need to post on Thurs night from the U.S., right? At the moment I'm posting now, it's nearly 10 P.M. (Mon nite) in the eastern time zone.

message 923: by Vi (new)

Vi Oh, it's 11 am here in India and Australia is usually around 5 hrs ahead of me. Its Probably afternoon there right now. Maybe posting a little earlier would help.

LOL - Susan, you don't have to be so precise! Anytime around Friday (anywhere around the world) is fine, ha ha ha...

FYI, it is currently 2:15pm (Tuesday) for me in Sydney

Not until Friday????? But I need all the time I can get to think up something clever for the quote thread. I can't wait until Friday, lol. *sitting on hands*

BTW - Susan - I would have loved First in series, debut, or even pebbles from the looks of it, lol.

Now I'm beginning to worry that all my teasing is going to come back to bite me. If you're all disappointed with my choice, compared to my almost-choices, I'll feel bad. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Heh, I doubt it, Susan!

Maybe you can dole out some clues / riddles for your picked shelf too and we can all have fun guessing for a day or two LOL

OK, clues. At the moment, the chosen shelf is on page 6 of Top Shelves. They move, though, so that clue is not good for long. :)

There are some great looking subjects on that page ... and some not-so-great ... can't wait to see what it will be!

D.G. | 1370 comments Oh I know what it is!

It's Menage!

(HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! LOL, I know it's not that one Susan...just couldn't help myself.)

Clue # 2: I haven't found HP there so far.

message 937: by Susan (new)

Susan | 3754 comments Mod
Clue # 3: The shelf has books in a great variety of genres and formats -- fiction & non-fiction, classics & at least one currently popular series, mysteries, romance, comics/graphic novels, memoirs, ya and even a few kids' picture books.

Of course I couldn't!!!

First I thought it was 'S' - why are there like 7 'S' shelves in there?

But then I saw Menage and had to mention it. :p

D.G. ~Shameless Hussy~ wrote: "First I thought it was 'S' - why are there like 7 'S' shelves in there?"

I know, that's so weird. There are actually a number of places where there seem to be different but identical shelves. But if you look at them, they're really multiple listings of the same shelf. Don't know why they're listed multiple times.

I think there are actually several errors in how the shelf lists are compiled. It must be very complicated coding. I'll tell you about another one tomorrow.

Clue # 4 (next-to-last clue): As of right now, I spot 2 books either read or reserved on the scripts tower which are on the chosen shelf. Of course, there may be others I don't know about.

It's almost bedtime for me here, and I'm posting the choice when I get up in the morning, so this will be the last clue.

Clue # 5: This shelf will not challenge Dee nearly as much as it will most of the rest of us. (Dee, if you guess, don't give it away.)
