Dan Jones | 3 comments Hello everyone. I really hope someone here can help me figure out what the heck the name of this book is. I believe it was 1985 when i first read this book. It was clothbound hardcover. The name was something about monsters and legends and maybe encyclopedia I think. It read like a reference book almost. There were sections about various monsters and a lot of the sections had full color drawings. I don't know it this makes sense but the pictures looked like they were oil painting, that may have been because they used oil based inks back then. It even had a section about how to become a werewolf, like it had a recipe for a potion and how to use it. I remember thinking this book was a little dark for a elementary school. It had sirens, harpies, mothman, bigfoot, vampires, more of "real" monsters, not movie monsters like godzilla, or king kong. If anyone can give me any help I would really appreciate it!! Thank you in advance!!

It might be worth checking their other books as well they had a lot on various different topics.

There's also Encyclopedia of Things That Never Were: Creatures, Places, and People, it came in hardbound editions, though I'm only familiar with the softbound version so I'm not sure if it was cloth bound or a paper type cover.

Brian | 90 comments I have that book. It's excellent, but it does not have a werewolf potion recipe.

Angela Johnson | 96 comments There was an illustrated encyclopedia of the supernatural that my sister and I read as children (late 70s, they weren't children's books though) called Man, Myth, and Magic. They were cloth-bound, purple if I recall. They covered everything supernatural...fascinating books. We used to pour over them for hours at the library. Man, Myth And Magic An Illustrated Encyclopedia Of The Supernatural (24 Vol. Set) by Richard Cavendish
