I have the opposite problem. I read the shiny while the old get dusty or e-dusty.

One and Done
SFF Standalones; might include other genres as well

Start date: Jan 1, 2019
End date: Dec 31, 2019
Target: none - as much as I can

1. Spinning Silver
2. Dragon Pearl
3. The Broken Sword
4. In the Vanishers’ Palace
5. Sea of Rust
6. To Kill a Kingdom
7. Snapshot
8. Blanca & Roja
9. The Goblin Emperor
10. Hollow Kingdom
11. Station Eleven
12. Good Guys
13. The Tangled Lands
14. City of Bones
15. Fire & Heist
16. The Ten Thousand Doors of January

I was aiming at 12 (one per month) but exceeded that number! It's quite the achievement for me as I used to read only 3-4 standalones a year before. I'm VERY proud :D

Have I heard this before?
Re-tellings of myths or fairy-tales

Start date: Jan 1, 2019
End date: Dec 31, 2019
Target: none - as much as I can

1. Spinning Silver (Rumplestiltskin)
2. The Broken Sword (Scandinavian sagas)
3. In the Vanishers’ Palace (Beauty and the Beast)
4. To Kill a Kingdom (The Little Mermaid)
5. Blanca & Roja (Snow-White & Rose-Red)

I have a mixed opinion on this theme. While it was interesting, most of the re-tellings I came across were YA. Nothing wrong with that, but YA is not really my cup of tea.

Bill | 337 comments Well done with last years challenge. I like your themes for this year. I’m still trying to figure out mine.

Thanks, Bill!
I had the superhero theme is mind for quite a while, as Super Powereds: Year 1 (and the entire series) became an absolute favorite.
I still have two slots to fill, and can't think of anything right now. It's really weird 'cause I had a ton of ideas late 2019 but they're eluding me now that I need them. And of course, I didn't bother writing them down somewhere :p

message 15: by Bill (new)

Bill | 337 comments Of course. I did the same thing. I always think throughout the year of things I would like to do in the following year and then the new year comes and my mine goes blank.

The January & February 2020 are both standalones (and were MY nominations muhahaha). I just nominated the first in a trilogy for March though :/

Finally found my fourth theme. I was hesitating so much, trying to choose between a few and having more ideas poping into my mind that I reached this decision: I'll just do them all! lol

So rather than doing one theme an entire year, I'll be switching themes when I've read 3 books within it or when I get tired of it, whichever comes first. The good part is that the 'Five books about...' articles at Tor.com will be an endless source of ideas :)

First one: Books in which reading/writing/books/libraries/bookstores play a prominent part.
