Hannah (foxon) | 36 comments I was gifted this audiobook a long time ago but never got around to reading it. But when looking for a book to listen to on the road this holiday season, I noticed it was narrated by the actor Alan Cumming and I though that was hilariously random, so here we are.

This is a steampunk alternative history about the potential heir to the Austrian Empire and a girl pretending to be a boy in the English airship navy (Ive forgotten the real name, sorry) right when WWI breaks out.

Is this a good steampunk book? I have no idea seeing as Ive read almost nothing in this particular genre. So Im curious what actual fans think of this.

Why this book is getting 3 stars instead of 2 is pretty straight forward, I don't actively dislike it and I had expected to. Is there amazing character development or fast paced action sequences, not really. There is mediocre levels of those two things, and A LOT of descriptions of the various steampunk technologies/ weird animal hybrid things. This is a book about teens for teens and I cant really find a lot of fault with it except it just wasn't my cup of tea. But even as it ended exactly the way you think its going to, I will probably listen to the next one at some point. I possibly just find the audio narration really funny, though.

Cora (corareading) | 1921 comments I read a lot of fantasy (although steampunk is not what I usually select) and I also gave this one 3 stars.

Hebah (quietdissident) | 675 comments I like steampunk and enjoyed this one. It wasn't my favorite, but I enjoyed it. If you get a chance to get your hands on a print copy of it, it's worth thumbing through for gorgeous illustrations by Keith Thompson.

Jackie (athena78) | 74 comments I've never ventured into Steampunk and it does sound like a fun genre; however, I want a book that's going to Wow me, so I appreciate your review. I'll probably not read this one, but again...Steampunk, hmmmm...

I'll check that out next time I'm at the library, thanks! Any recommendations for great steampunk books?
