Ron Charles, The Washington Post’s reviewer, says about it:
The macabre comedy plays out in sparkling dialogue, including some hilarious speeches that are both incantations of Irish mythology and masterful bits of parody. Caldwell is a successful playwright, too, and his perfect ear for the non sequiturs of real conversation is a constant delight. If you love the Irish, if you've ever fallen in love or been spurned in love—heck, if you love bacon—you must read this irresistible novel.
Pure chance I ran across this book, and darn glad I did-just the right mix of mystery and comedy-an absolute delight to read.
Aaron McCloud had gone to Ireland to visit his Aunt(who is young enough to be his cousin) . His reason for going is to spend lonely moments wallowing in self-pity over a woman who rejected him. The moment he lands in the Irish Country side the absurdity begins. There were times I was comparing this to a Mighty Python skit-the humor was just that good. Yes, there is a pig involved, and although not the star of the story his cameos are perfection.
it is one of those books Goodreads people either love or hate-I fell in love with the pig and was thrilled to see there are 2 more books after this.
