Anastasia didn’t say anything to anyone as she took her seat in the front of her class, not even trying for pleasant smiles or anything of the sort. She was exhausted from not having slept- save for the hour or so where she’d been so stupidly unaware of what her boyfriend had been planning- yet couldn’t find it in herself to stay in her room. Mostly because this was only the second day of school, and she couldn’t miss it. Not to mention it would be so uncharacteristic of her to. After having given up sleeping, she’d spent all of her morning doing her makeup and hair- this time without even the slightest bit of magic. So she looked better than she normally did, thankfully. The only thing she could say she hadn’t done was eat, because anything she’d try to swallow down would feel like sand and she wasn’t in the mood to try.

Bolt was early for class for the first time in ages. He hadn't slept at all, but considering he rarely needed to sleep he looked just fine. If a little...agitated. How could he be remotely content with how he and Anastasia had left things. Most of the night he'd spent wondering why she was angry at him. There were plenty of reasons, of course, but which bothered her most? When he reached the classroom, he took a seat at the back like he used to, since there was just one stupid bruise that refused to heal. He'd spent most of the night watching that too, waiting for it to fix itself. He wasn't going to break her trust again, especially so soon.

Anastasia didn’t have to turn to look to know he’d arrived, although she did want to. More when time passed and he hadn’t taken her seat beside her. Part of her was glad that he was obeying her orders, but the other was… sad that he had. Which was stupid, she knew, but not so much.

It wasn't easy for Bolt to keep from staring at Anastasia during class. Even before they were dating, he used to do that in attempt to figure her out. Clearly it hadn't really worked. But he knew she'd feel him looking and he didn't like the longing that clawed at his chest for it, so he tried instead to pay attention to the teacher's lecturing.

Like always, she could feel his eyes on her the entire time. Unlike then, though, she wasn’t going to give in and give him the reactions he wanted. She stayed looking at the board the entire class, occasionally jotting down a few notes, before the bell rang. She didn’t take too long packing her things before she stood and left, not even bothering with waiting for Marcie and Mavis. They had each other to keep company.

Helena had her notebook in hand while going around to the different classrooms to find whatever teachers were working already. As part of the extra credit programs the headmistress was adding, there was an incentive to have students intern with teachers, whoever would be willing. She knocked on the classroom door, though it was open, to see if the person she was supposed to meet was inside.

John was already inside, going through the papers he had already been sent by some of the students during winter break. Most of his students from his advance class, it seemed, had thought they’d get ahead of the game. And since he was genuinely doing nothing, he might as well read and grade them now too.

"Professor Constantine? Do you have a moment?" Helena asked, pushing the door open a bit more and stepping inside, though she could have easily entered without doing so. She didn't want to interrupt anything he was doing if it was important. But maybe if he couldn't spare a moment now, they could set up a meeting time later.

“Just Constantine.” John replied, not looking up from his work as he wrote down on his grade book before he opened another draft. “You can, unless you’re here to ask me to do something.”

"I am, more or less, but not anything to do right now," she replied, going over to his desk. Even though he didn't look up at her, she reached out her hand as if to shake his. "I'm Helena Dougenis, the new student counselor."

John finally looked away from his screen to look at her hand and then her face. “I didn’t know they hired someone new.” He said, standing before shaking her hand. “What brings you in today?”

"It hasn't been long since I started, and even less since I've been leaving my office. The students keep me busy," Helena explained before moving on to why she was there. "The headmistress and I have been working on an internship program for some of the students. We're going to be running a trial of it this semester, with one student per subject working with the teachers and learning a little more in depth for extra credit." She reached into her stack of folders and pulled out the one with information about the program for the teachers.

John took it when she handed it over, looking at him it with a little confusion. “Do we know what students will go to which teacher?” He asked, hoping he wouldn’t get anyone that would make him regret semi agreeing to this.

"The students will apply for the topics they want most, and depending on how many apply, there will be a brief vetting and interview process that the teachers may or may not be a part of," Helena explained. "It will be decided on a case by case basis."

“Hm.” John replied, hoping that only a few students would do his class. He knew that it was maybe one of the harder courses, so it’ll hopefully be to his advantage then. “Will we have to take any trainings or is the entire program in the package?”

"This packet is just information," Helena said, gesturing to the folder he'd taken. "The program is completely voluntary, though I already know some students who are interested. No trainings needed, though we have some optional ones if you feel you need it. You and Professor Raijin will work together, and you can sort of treat the student like an assistant who needs some extra guidance."

“So I can send them for coffee runs and stuff?” He asked, although only half jokingly. He knew what students not to send- like the notorious couple that made out in the back of his class when they thought no one was paying attention. Too bad they were the students with the highest score overall.

Helena gave a laugh. "Yes, you can. But they will be assessing you after the semester, too, so make sure they don't hate you for the busy work," she advised. This was a trial, so there would be more restrictions and all later, but it didn't seem unreasonable when the students were really interns.

“I think I can do that.” John replied, chuckling a little as he put the pamphlet down on the table. “I doubt anyone other than the advanced class will want to, anyways. They already know how I am.”

"Probably. It's mostly the older, advanced students who want to get extra curriculars but don't like sports or other things like that," Helena explained. "We just want a lot of alternatives, and learning opportunities. Who knows, maybe some of them will teach here some day."

“Thats a possibility.” He said, since it really was. Maybe this town will one day become closer to a city or something. He knew a lot of students had unrolled in the last few years. “I’ll talk to Raijin.”

"Thank you," she said, smiling politely. "If you have any more questions, just give me a call or stop by my office. Mrs. Harmonia can answer some things too, if you'd prefer to go to her." She pulled a business card out and handed that to him too, since she hadn't had the foresight to put it with the packet.

“I’ll call you if I need any more information.” John replied, returning his polite smile. He couldn’t help it- she was pretty and he was getting out of a little “rock bottom” moment. Arabella hadn’t answered his texts and calls, and he was starting to believe their fling had ended.

"Perfect, thank you. I look forward to working with you," Helena said and adjusted her glasses with no small amount of a nervous tic. She was fine at dealing with people, but the whole leaving part she always had trouble with. She could never figure us out. "I'll let you get back to it now."

“It was nice meeting you.” Was John’s only response, since he knew she likely had a dozen other teachers to get back to soon. Plut he still had all those papers to grade.

Helena nodded and headed out then, since she did have many more teachers to visit but every receptive interaction encouraged her that this program could be a success.
