Hi friends!

Here's the link for Goodreads's 2019 Reading Challenge:
https://www.goodreads.com/challenges/...

And here is the link for POPSUGAR's 2019 Reading Challenge:
https://www.popsugar.com/entertainmen...

Goodreads lets you pick a goal amount of books to read for the year, while POPSUGAR gives you a list of prompts like "A book set in space," or "A book by two female authors."

Give us a shout out if you are participating and what books you are using for the prompts! I think all of the books I am checking out this month would work for "A book inspired by mythology, legend, or folklore," since they all have to do with vampires.

Deborah Crossland | 12 comments Hi! I’m not doing the Pop Sugar challenge, but I’m challenging myself to read 100 books this year through Goodreads.

Wow! How many do you usually read? I only read 15 books last year, and a bunch of them were graphic novels. This year I'm challenging myself to do 25, and I'm hoping I can get into a good series so it's easier to get some momentum going.

Do you already have some books planned out?

Deborah Crossland | 12 comments Well, I’m in grad school, so I have some planned out for me. I’m also lucky enough to read for NetGalley. Last year I read 62, not counting unfinished or partial reads for school. It’s great that you’ve upped your goal so much!

62?! That's amazing! I've never heard of NetGalley, but I just looked it up and that sounds fun.

Do you have any tips to share with readers? I know for me the trick is just finding something interesting enough to hold my attention, and not wasting time with things I think I "should" be reading.

Deborah Crossland | 12 comments Haha I love reading! Also, it's in my job description, so I'm lucky that way. The best way to read a lot of books is to find a genre or author you love and stick to it. A lot of book sellers, and I'm betting libraries, have "fans of ... will also like..." sections, and those are a great place to get recommendations. Also, a comfy chair and cozy blanket doesn't hurt!

That's awesome!

We do have that at the library. It's called NoveList Plus:

I use it all the time for work and then forget we have it when it comes to me picking out my own leisure reading.

Perfect weather for that lately!

Deborah, you were so right! All the books I tried last month were the first in their series. Even though I did not care for nor finish most of them, the two that I did I loved. Now I have two series of books I can happily dive into this year, and two authors I can follow.

Deborah Crossland | 12 comments Michael, that's great! What are the series, if I may ask?

Hellboy, Vol. 1: Seed of Destruction by Mike Mignola, Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris, and right now I'm reading Necroscope by Brian Lumley and it is very cool too. I also plan on checking out Dark Prince and Dark Lover, but those may be a little too romance focused for me. We shall see!

For those of you participating in the Ultimate Popsugar Reading Challenge, feel free to post your thoughts on Where'd You Go, Bernadette here.

For those of you participating in Our Shared Bookshelf, they just wrapped up The Things I Would Tell You: British Muslim Women Write. I will post here once I find out the next book they decide on, and you can share your comments here if you like.
