Dear readers, I would love your help! I'm trying to find a story in an anthology that really influenced me as a teenager 20 years ago. It was a short story where the female protagonist describes her relationship with her hairdresser, and how he helped her navigate her career (dinner parties, career decisions, financial). It ends in his premature death - at the funeral where she he cut the hair of all his closest clients prior to his early death. She and his other clients who meet at the funeral go on to form a group of female friends afterwards.

It really influenced me in thinking about careers and close friendships as a teenager and I'd love to re-read it. Any tips on where to look super welcome!
