SOLVED. Math book written by a Korean or WWII p.o.w. [s]

My brother in law read this book when he was in Vietnam in the mid 1960s. The author had been a p.o.w. in the Korean war or WWII. While in the p.o.w. camp he thought up different ways to solve math problems. The math problems could be real simple or a little bit harder. I hope I have this right. Has anyone heard of this book?
