Marion | 124 comments Hi, I know it's been a long time since I've been on here, but does anyone have A City on a Hill by Connilyn Cosette to lend? I was invited to a virtual book club that's discussing it next week! Yay for book clubs. Boo that every person in the club uses the same library system to borrow it LOL. Thanks for looking!

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4444 comments Sorry I don't have any of the above books. If you are on Facebook, try Christian Book Lending for Kindle and Nook. I often find something I am looking for there.

message 70: by Kim (new)

Kim | 8 comments Ok thanks. I was going to try to read it before the ACFW book club sends me book 2 for next month's book club read. I might see if someone on that group has it to loan. My library isn't a big city library so it doesn't have a whole lot.

Breny and Books (breny) Hi all :) Does anyone have Yours Truly, Thomas by Rachel Fordham available to loan? Yours Truly, Thomas by Rachel Fordham

message 73: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennbehindthebooks) | 65 comments Does your library have something like OverDrive (Libby) or Hoopla? My library has Yours Truly, Thomas available in ebook form to borrow, but I know that doesn't help you

Breny and Books (breny) Jennifer wrote: "Does your library have something like OverDrive (Libby) or Hoopla? My library has Yours Truly, Thomas available in ebook form to borrow, but I know that doesn't help you"

Yes! Sadly my library doesn't. have any of Rachel Fordham's books through Libby or overdrive :(
Thank you anyway!!

message 75: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennbehindthebooks) | 65 comments Have you tried "requesting" them through OverDrive? I often do that and it seems that our library system purchases a good portion of the books my sisters and I request! Sometimes it takes a little while before they purchase it, but as long as you're not in a rush it's worth a try! At the bottom of the page on OverDrive when you type in "Rachel Fordham", there should be a spot where it says something like "Not what you're looking for? See titles your library doesn't own." or something to that effect. Hope this helps!

message 76: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennbehindthebooks) | 65 comments Whoops! I guess I should've also said, when you see titles your library doesn't own, then there should be a button to hit "Request". sorry, I'm a little brain-dead tonight!!! :/

Hi Christine

You are allowed to lend a kindle book but only once and it has to be lending enabled. If you go to the book details on amazon it will show you if you are allowed to lend it or not.

There is other options as well for giving people access to your books - like having a family household account or sharing the same amazon account - but then you need to trust those people (you can check on amazon :-) I have a second kindle (old) which I lend to a friend with books I bought.

My book club is reading a book that I can get in Kindle Unlimited for free. My group needs the book. I want to lead it to them. I trust my friends. Good people. I will check this out so my friends can has access to the book. Thanks for letting me know!!

If you go to the Manage your digital content page on Amazon and go through your books (if you get the box to show that says things like Return (if it's a library book or Kindle Unlimited, etc) and I think that is where, if it can be lent, it asks you if you want to lend it. I haven't done this and don't have many Kindle books (I mainly borrow through Overdrive or the state library directly).

I never lend on my kindle before but like you I am a Libby addict. Get most of my audiobooks there. Thanks so much for the info, appreciate it!!

Christine If you are going to lend a book, you will need to know the kindle e-mail addy for the person your are lending it to. Here are the steps after going to Amazon:
1) Click on accounts and lists under were it says Hello Christine
2) Click on Your Content and Devices
3) Click on box that says Your Devices and Content
4) Click on manage digital content
5) Search for the book you want to lend
6) On the left side of the book title, click on actions to see if it says Loan this Tile in the list at the bottom (not all kindle books are lendable)
7. If it is lendable, click on Loan this Book. That is where you will enter the email of the person you want to loan it to.

Hope this helps you walk through it! We have a thread here for lending/borrowing Kindle books:

I have a book club book that is free for me because I have Kindle Unlimited and I would like to share it with a friend. To find the book it is really expensive. So I thank you and so do my friends that will pass the Kindle around!! Thanks again and it is really appreciated!

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4444 comments Glad I could help. It took me a while to figure it out too! BTW you can only loan a book once.

message 89: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennbehindthebooks) | 65 comments Just to clarify... You can only loan a book once in a lifetime, or to one person at a time?

message 90: by Loraine (new)

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4444 comments You can only loan a book that is lendable once. Then it can no longer be loaned.

message 91: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennbehindthebooks) | 65 comments Thanks for clearing that up! I've never lent or received, so I wasn't sure how it worked. I wanted to know how it works, though, so I don't misuse my privileges.

message 92: by Sarita (new)

Sarita | 2298 comments Also, as far as I know, you can only loan books you bought, not on KU because with kindle unlimited you borrow the book.

message 93: by Loraine (new)

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4444 comments Thanks for adding that Sarita. It definitely has to be books you own but it can be ones you got on a free day as they are still considered purchases.

message 94: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennbehindthebooks) | 65 comments Good to know! :)

message 95: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennbehindthebooks) | 65 comments One more question... Is there a time limit on lending? As in, if I lend a book to a friend, can they have it as long as they want, or does it automatically return to me after a set amount of time?
Also, I'm not able to read it while it is lent out, correct?

message 96: by Christine (new)

Christine Indorf | 392 comments I am glad I brought this up! Like you Jennifer I never knew I could lend my Kindle books out. This is going to help a friend who needs a book I have. Poor Loraine she'll be worn out by the time we asks her all this questions. Lol!

message 97: by Sarita (new)

Sarita | 2298 comments Books you lend out will be unavailable for you yes. When you loan a book, someone as 7 days to accept the loan, then once accepted, 14 days to read. After the 14 days it automatically deleted from the borrower. They can send it back sooner if they are done before the 14 days are up.

If you do a household account, you have longer - not sure if you can read it the same time though.

Some of the people I know just register their kindle to the same account, and downloads the book to both devices. Then put kindle on airplane mode so then you can read the same book at your pace. I usually just log in, download the book for my friend and log out again. On my back up kindle.

The risk of having one account is people can buy on your account - that is why I rather go in and download and log out.

Good info Sarita!

message 99: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennbehindthebooks) | 65 comments Thanks Sarita! My sister is wanting to lend one of our ebooks to a friend in another state while she (my sister) reads our paperback copy of the book. A little buddy read of sorts. I wanted to understand all of the logistics before sending it to the friend so that we didn't make a big whoops and not be able to fix it! So thanks for all the info! I think y'all have answered all my questions so that we can do this correctly. :)
